Connecting with a student who is failing a class, reminding them that mistakes are okay and are a part of learning, reflecting on what's going well and what could be improved, and then helping them make a plan for how they are going to move forward. What supports do they need to enact that plan? Frequent check ins and following up.

Every year I tell stories about students who REALLY struggled in AP US History early in the course, how they worked very hard all year and what actions they took to get a 3 on the exam. I tell them that is "the Maine East way!" (One story is from 2013-14, the other is from 2024-2025)
