What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of dress codes? Girls wearing inappropriate clothing? Girls being distracting? Well, that’s because girls are targeted for what they wear and what they feel most comfortable in. Dress codes should not be existent. They target girls and never one boy. They make girls feel insecure about their bodies and it makes them not confident in their own skin. In the article “Is your body appropriate to wear to school?” Written by Hayley Krischer published by the New York Times. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/17/style/student-bra-nipples-school.html Lizzy Martinez had got a sunburn on her chest and could not wear a bra because it hurt her chest so she wore a dark flowy long sleeve so no one could see her chest. As she got to school the teachers noticed, the boys laughed and made jokes, and she got sent to the principles office. They told her she had to cover up her chest with tape. After she had to put tape on her chest she cried and went home. This is unacceptable. Boys have never gotten dress coded and girls always do. The excuse the teachers make is that the clothing is distracting to the boys but I don’t think that a boy is focused on a shoulder. In the movie Moxie by Amy Poehler published by Netflix. One of the main characters was wearing a tank top and she got dress coded. What confused her was that the girl right next to her was wearing the same thing but she didn’t get dress coded because she had a smaller chest than the girl that got dress coded. They make girls feel insecure and make them not confident. I personally don’t wear some things to school because I know I will get dress coded for some reason. I want to feel comfortable in my body but at the same time, I also want to feel confident. In the article, https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2015/10/school-dress-codes-are-problematic/410962/ by Li Zhou published by The Atlantic. #IAmMoreThanADistraction tweet went viral on Twitter because of all of the unacceptable sexist dress coding that was happening in their school. Some people think girls wear these clothes to attract people. Girls wear these clothes because it makes them feel confident in their bodies and usually that is really hard with our society’s high expectations. Girls wear these clothes not to attract people but to feel comfortable and confident in their bodies. What YOU personally should do is wear what you feel most comfortable and confident in. Whether that’s a crop top or a hoodie. Wear what you want with your body and make sure that you feel confident in your own skin.

You probably think that being an athlete is a very luxurious life. You make a lot of money, you become a celebrity, and you get to have thousands of people cheer you on everyday. Right? Wrong. Only the best of the best of the BEST get to experience this kind of lifestyle. Athletes at the college level do not even get a salary. Collegiate athletes should receive a salary because they need spending money and playing is working. Athletes need compensation because they need money to spend out of pocket. Athletes get scholarships to schools. But they only cover so much. Most of the money goes to tuition, books, and fees, even though athletes spend most of their time on sports than on studies. Athletes also just need money to spend, like all of us. They need money for groceries, clothes, and entertainment. If they go out to a restaurant, they need to be able to pay the bill. Injuries also make compensation a necessity if they are unable to complete the regular season. Playing a sport is also a working job. An athlete is a working job and it needs a paying salary at all levels. They work and play and all the money they generate goes to the school which is not right. Star athletes also generate a lot of buzz and publicity, and the revenue generated from their name goes to the school, same with all the ticket sales. Lots of promising high school basketball players who will eventually be drafted into the NBA elect to play one year overseas or in the NBA G-League because they receive a paying salary. Some people might say that there will be disputes on athletes getting a larger salary than others. These disputes will not be a problem because the salaries will most likely be equal. However, certain people might receive bonuses when they play well, or the team performs well. People don’t deserve to spend countless hours practicing, playing, and working without receiving something in return. It is not humane and right. Especially the athletes that are not skilled enough to play at a professional level. They spend more hours on sports than on studies so their grades might not be as exceptional. We must approve these bills, state by state, and convince the NCAA to change the rules and regulations and allow these people to have more freedom. They are not the school’s property, nor are they the NCAA’s property.

Imagine you were shopping, see something you like, then notice that it’s labeled with the opposite gender. Wouldn’t you maybe be having second thoughts after noticing the label? All clothing should be manufactured as gender-less. Clothing that does have a gender, sets unnecessary boundaries. Gendered clothing also can cause harmful stereotypes. Therefore, I think that all clothing should be gender-less, so instead of labeling clothing with men’s, and women’s, label it with feminine, masculine, and neutral instead.

The first issue I would like to address is that, when clothing has a gender label, it causes boundaries. Usatoday confirmed that there may be a new bill requiring all department stores have a gender- neutral section for kids. I think it's great that stores are recognizing that when children are young, is when they learn stereotypes around clothing. I think by making it gender- neutral will help children, and even adults blind those stereotypes. Also, in a USAtoday article it was reported that, “In 2017, 4.5% of adults identified as LGBT. Now in 2021 5.6% adults identify as LGBT”. I think because of how society is becoming more opening and welcoming to this community, that people are starting to express themselves more than ever now. Even though the percentage didn’t go up by so much, it still went up and I think that's a very powerful thing, that people are starting to feel more confident in their own skin. I think that having clothing be gender-less will help people part of this community to express themselves fully. To me, it’s incredibly important for people to be able to be themselves, in a safe and loving environment. As ally’s, it's our job to help support them, so it's great to see more people publicly coming out.

The next topic I would like to address that having clothes with genders creates stereotypes, and oftentimes the stereotypes aren’t nice ones. Hasbro changed the Potato Head toy to be gender-neutral (not a boy, or a girl). They took away the “Mr” from the toy's name. I think this was a very powerful change that impacted some kids. There may have been some kids struggling with their gender identity, and only having the Potato Head toy being a “Ms.” or a “Mr.” may have been confusing, and challenging. The “womens” Potato Head toy wears makeup, implying to me that men shouldn’t because the men’s one isn’t. I’m connecting this to clothing because this I feel like is something extremely similar, only having a Ms and Mr, and having men’s and women’s clothing. I think the same argument that goes for the Potato Head toy, goes for clothing as well. Also, in an American Progress article its stated that, 1 out of every 3 people in the LGBTQ have experienced discrimination. The main reason these people were targets was because of their gender identity, or sexual orientation. I think this goes a long way for clothes as well. I know that there are many stereotypes how maybe a gay man would act, or speak. This does connect to clothing because some people may see a man in a dress and automatically thinking that he may be homosexual. I think that stereotypes like those really aren’t necessary. All of that is because of basic stereotypes that cause children to not fully express themselves.

Even right now, you may believe that gender norms and gendered clothing is ok, but I hope that you take extra time, and further educate yourself about everything that is currently happening to the LGBTQIA+ community. As someone who is an ally, I find it extremely important that we do as much as we can to help people in this community to continue to be proud of who they are. After all of the challenges that they already face, I think that taking away gendered-clothing will help them to continue to thrive.

Plastic Bottle Impact

Plastic industries should start to think about switching to more eco-friendly materials. 50 billion plastic bottles are bought across the US each year. That’s 500 billion plastic bottles every decade! If you decide to use a reusable water bottle, it would cost about $20 but if not, that’s $6,180 worth of plastic bottles over the length of 5 years. One person switching to a more eco-friendly material could save 156 plastic water bottles every year.

If more people stopped using single-use plastics, it can make a great impact on our ecosystem! Like I said before, one person can save about 156 plastic bottles each year, imagine that number multiplied by hundreds, thousands, or even millions of people! Using plastic water bottles contributes to climate change by releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere! The sad fact is, plastic bottles are the third more pollutant in the world and humans are the reason for that.

Think about what you are buying or even throwing out before you do it. A straw with an iced coffee, a plastic bag for takeout, a wrapper, taken individually each of the items seem harmless but together they are distorting our earth. These plastic materials that we use in our everyday life are so quickly thrown out that they hardly ever register in our minds! Plastic industries make straws, plastic bags, wrappers, and more that are made to be thrown out with no thought. We produce 300 million tons of plastic each year worldwide. 50% of the plastic that we produce each year are single-use plastics.

Some people might say that this could be a big step or jump for plastic industries. And it can be if we make it difficult but we can also work together to fund and create these eco-friendly materials. Others might say materials such as paper and cardboard could be much more expensive. And if we switched to eco-friendly materials what would happen to plastic? The answer is simple. We would keep the plastic that is required for living organisms such as surgical gloves, tubes, shots, medication vials. But plastic materials including milk jugs, water bottles, plastic utensils, candy wrappers, straws, could be made out of other materials. We could go on and on listing all of the plastic materials that are not required for our everyday lives.

Do you want to save our planet to live on and on? Or would you prefer to use plastic to destroy our planet for future generations?

did you know that the United States Soccer Federation is being sexist?! They are paying they men so much more money than they deserve and paying the women a fraction of what they should get?! In my Opion it is unbelievable! In my opinion I think that the women and the men should be paid the same if not the women more. I think the women’s soccer team should be paid equally because they win way more. The men in both games and tournaments. It says in the Washington post “Here’s an idea: If you win 13-0 — the most goals for a single game in World Cup history — you should be paid at least equally to the men’s team.” Stats say ( The Washington post) that the women bring in the most poblisaty and fans “The @USWNT is #1 in the world & contributes higher revenues for @USSoccer than the men’s team, but they’re still paid a fraction of what the men earn. Women deserve equal pay for equal (or better!) work in offices, factories, AND on the soccer field.” the women’s stats vs the men’s!
The women’s team got paid 30 million dollars all together! Which don’t get me wrong is a lot but the men got 400 MILLION DOLLARS! That's a 370 MILLION dollar difference! That’s crazy.

Now let’s talk about records. The women’s soccer team has won a total of 4 world cups but the men have 10 but the last time they won was over 11 years ago and the women won last year! Now I see why they got paid more back then cause they won more but now the women do!
some people say the men should be paid more because they have bigger competition, but they really don’t!

even if they do have more competition you still lose, you don’t bring in nearly as many fans as the women or money. The women bring in a load of money cause they WIN! I think the women should get paid more cause they win more, they bring in more money, and they are overall a better team. What about you? What do you think? Do you think this is fair?

Have you ever felt so tired and have to get out of bed for school? You just want to sleep for a little bit more and then you're late for school.

It has been shown that children and teens should get 8-12 hours of sleep a night if not more. But with them sleeping late and having to wake up early for school is it really enough?

Changes are important and we have to acknowledge them instead of going against them.
According to UCLA Health your body internally operates around the circadian system. When your tired the circadian rhythms are telling you to sleep by secreting melatonin
It is natural for these sleep waves to get delayed, this is human biology. In effect, we wake up later.

Not only can being sleep deprived make you feel bad it can have serial consequences
The CDC states that if you don’t sleep well on a regular basis it can contribute to things like depression, low grades, being lethargic, and being easily convinced to do things like drugs and alcohol.
The RAND Corporation found that an estimated $83 billion would be saved and contributed to the economy within a decade if schools opened after 8:30. Car crashes will likely be reduced, since most children will have more awareness and agility. Grades improvement has also been hypothesized as brains are more awake.

Some people may say “I don’t need that much sleep.” But sometimes your body sleeps longer due to how much stress you’ve been under or much you’ve worked. Sleeping is a time for your body to regain and restore cells and energy. It also drains all of the toxic waste.
Some times some people have a special mutation that lets some be able to operate normally with less sleep hours than the regular human. Sleeping for up to 3 hours can make you less tired too as it can decrease sleep pressure according the Healthline

Waking up early, homework, and extracurriculars can tire you out really easily. Health is important or else you’re working hard for nothing. It has already been proved multiple times by the sources we trust most that schools should start later so children can try and get closer to sleeping 8-12 hours a night.

Many people wear masks and you probably haven’t seen someone outside without a mask except if it’s for a special reason. But actually, a good amount of people don’t wear the vaccine or follow covid guidelines. Some people haven’t experienced the risks and don’t know how bad it is to get the virus and how serious it can be. Here’s why you should wear masks, and take the vaccine.

One of the main reasons to wear masks is because it reduces transmission of the virus and it protects you and others around you. ”According to the CDC, an estimated 50% of transmission happens before people develop any COVID-19 symptoms. Wearing a mask is an easy way to reduce the risk of unknowingly spreading the infection,” says Taylyn Washington-Harmon, an editor on Health. Even though you might not have covid, you can still wear a mask to protect others just to be safe. Sometimes you will still get the virus even if you wear a mask. Masks are not 100% effective against the virus, you will never be. A mask only decreases the chances of getting covid. And not only do you also protect yourself from covid, but you also protect others by not spreading it to them.

Taking the vaccine sometimes seems like a bad choice to others because it might seem dangerous, but it is just like any vaccine. “All COVID-19 vaccines that are in development are being carefully evaluated in clinical trials and will be authorized or approved only if they make it substantially less likely you will get COVID-19,” says the CDC. So the current vaccines right now have been tested and since they are now available, that means they must have already been confirmed to be effective. This is extra protection against the virus as masks and social distancing are sometimes not enough. They don’t completely stop covid from infecting you even though they lower the chances of you getting it. This is the reason why vaccines are so important. If you do somehow get covid even though you were wearing a mask, you will be protected because you took the vaccine. Yes, there have been deaths from the vaccines, but only because of anaphylaxis, which is an allergic reaction that happens extremely rarely. From Moderna, a company that makes vaccines, they said in one million people, only 3 people died from anaphylaxis.

You should definitely do all of the mentioned above, because it helps everyone including you. It will help save lives and help us get back to normal, so we can live our lives normally. Remember, you are not invincible to the virus, you are just as vulnerable as anyone.

Have you ever wondered why some schools are better than others, and how we can change that? Well I know a great way!
Celebrities should be involved in schools. By having celebrities involved, their followers will want to be as well. Also, kids deserve to be able to focus on school, not surviving.
if celebrities get involved in schools, their followers will too. As it says in the Bergen magazine; “Pink brings awareness to the greater need for education through her various social media platforms and her concerts.” She is not the only person doing this, and definitely is having an impact! The Bergen Magazine also states; “Furthermore, these celebrities’ efforts inspire their fans and followers to be supporters of these causes, which will continue to do great things.” This is my exact claim, and is even more proof of why celebrities should be involved in schools.
Now, this is NOT the only reason why celebrities should be involved. You may not experience this, but a lot of kids have to focus on surviving. Which they put in front of school. If celebrities can help them get rid of that worry, school will be more important. this statement from eleyo tells us that people really can do anything, with a little help; ”Every child can be successful if they have the right tools” celebrities are working towards

Making it so kids all have the tools they need to be successful. Finally, the advocate states; “The Show Me Campaign provides free meals, safe water and WASH services for schools”. This gives kids the resources a they need to survive, so more focus is put into school.

Now, people could say; “the celebrities just do this for show!” But, there are much easier ways of doing that, you don’t have to donate $10 million like Mark Wahlberg did, just to get “more famous”.
So, you, yes you! Should get involved, publicize helping schools! Make it go to the wider community where EVERYONE will see it, even if you aren’t a celebrity, you can make a difference!

Have you ever thought; Do college athletes get paid? Well, there is only one answer to salary, No. You might be surprised, you might not be. The NCAA came out with a clear statement claiming that the schools need to pay for important uses in schools including, textbooks, paying for buildings, and donations to other equipment. A report from Adam liptak, interviewing the N.C.A.A brief states: ''require any school to provide these kinds of education-related benefits or prevent an individual conference from restricting such benefits if it chooses.”

College athletes that show up to practice, work hard, and do good in games, are not close to getting paid. Portland Trail Blazers Shabazz Napier says, ”It was frustrating to win championship after championship every year, hear thousands chant my name, and then go to my bedroom to count my change so I could buy a burger.” In every article you see about college athletes' salary, you see the word NCAA. In kareem abdul jabbar’s article, "It's time to pay the tab for America's college athletes." it shows MANY interviews and brief discussions presented to the NCAA! A prime example of this from kareem abdul jabbar's article, “During the three weeks of March Madness basketball last year, the NCAA earned $900m dollars while $9.2bn was gambled on the outcome. The players banging it out on the courts earned zip. Nada. Nothing.”

An article by New York Times states, ”A successful sports program can be a university's foremost attraction.” The NCAA does not pay attention to this kind of work that athletes do, they only care about who plays well. Another quote from the New York times article simply states, ”Pay student athletes respect and pay them money.” It can be this simple for the NCAA to say yes. The most important thing to realize here is that the NCAA works hard to create a fanbase, nice branding, and with all this leftover money, they can't pay a single cent to the student athletes who might not be able to eat?

The supreme court appealed: ''the decision will transform student-athletes into professionals, eliminating the pro-competitive distinction between college and professional sports.'' This makes no sense because everyone knows that college athletes are different especially by the fact that there salaries are MUCH different

The reason why this topic is important for people to understand is, the fact that athletes work for nothing. Think of the NCAA as a factory, inside the NCAA are workers, or players. When people in the factories work hard and help the business, they get paid. I don't see a reason to believe why the college athletes cant get paid. Its not fair.

My name is Julia Krug and GPS tracking my phone has helped me feel more safe walking in public. Me and my friends used to walk home from school together a lot when we were much younger. Sometimes we would get afraid that something bad was going to happen to us walking home by ourselves. With no phone and no GPS watch or phone we were scared that if something did happen, nobody would know where we were.

GPS tracking can relieve stress and make people feel a lot more comfortable walking home from a place alone. Me and my friends used to walk home from school together a lot when we were much younger. Sometimes we would get afraid that something bad was going to happen to us walking home by ourselves. With no phone and no GPS watch we were scared that if something did happen, nobody would know where we were. In Brick House Security they state, “the child may develop a false sense of safety when they are out on their own.”

There are many different ways parents can track your phone, so if you were thinking about buying a $100.00 gizmo watch but you already have a phone, no need because you can do something as simple as downloading an app. On your phone there are many different reliable apps you can download to let someone of your choice know where you are by the GPS tracking feature. Some of these apps may include Life 360, Family Link, and many others . After downloading one of these apps, you can ask your parent or guardian to help set up your new GPS tracking apps on your phone, I can almost guarantee you will feel more comfortable walking home in public because your parents or guardians know where you are at all times.

If your child is too young to have a phone and you'd still prefer them to be GPS tracked, then a gizmo is perfect for you “The smartwatches tested essentially serve as basic smartphones, allowing parents to communicate with their children as well as track their location.” Says Joseph Venable a BBC Technology reporter. Not only do the watches have an SOS feature that instantly calls their parents, they are also a lot cheaper than a phone.

Some people might say that having a GPS tracking a child’s phone might restrict freedom in that kid, but that statement is false. If that kid does not want a tracking device on them whenever they pick up their phone to indicate where they are at the moment, then they can always turn it off whenever they wish to do so.

When having a GPS on your phone and or watch, you will most likely feel a lot more safe when walking around in public. You may even mature. In Brick House Security they state, “Information gathered can be used to help your child be more responsible and safe.” Having this on you will tell a parent or guardian where you are so in case of an emergency they are one step ahead by knowing where you are.

I as a 13 year old girl get up in the morning and choose what I want to wear that day. Over the past year I’ve realized that I’ve started dressing more masculine (where I’m comfortable doing so), although most of the time I’m somewhere in between a “masculine” and “feminine” style. Some of my favorite shirts come from the “boys/men’s” section. Whenever I go shopping I always feel a bit awkward going into the boys section and having these 7 year olds stare at me judgmentally. Because of this I believe that clothes should not be gendered. It prevents people from expressing themselves and it’s been done for a while, it only got weird now.
Clothes being gendered prevents people from truly expressing themselves. An example of this is “a cross-dressing Houston senior was sent home because his wig violated the school’s dress code”

(Can A Boy Wear A Skirt To School? New York Times.) This boy was just trying to dress how he wanted, and yet he got sent home. Why? Because his wig was too long. It was just a wig and yet because it didn’t fit society’s gender norms when a boy was wearing it he had to take it off. Now please, ask this question to yourselves, “would this happen if a girl wore a wig?” Another example of this is when “a girl was barred from her yearbook because she wore a tuxedo.” (Can A Boy Wear a Skirt To School? New York Times.) Plenty of boys wear tuxedos for their yearbook photo. Why does it only become problematic when a girl does it? Societies gender norms have rid us of our creativity.
Men wearing feminine clothes and women wearing masculine clothes has been done for a while. Why is it only getting weird now? For example, “King Louis XIV wore more feminine clothes” (Clothes have no gender) Another example is an article by National Geographic (Gender-bending fashion rewrites the rules of who wears what) where they talk about how people have been bending gender fashion/roles for years. In 1507-1458 when Queen Hatshepsut ruled Egypt with a false beard and no torso covering she was one of the prime examples. some people might say that skirts are only for women and suits are only for men. Many influential people are proving them wrong, women such as Carrie Fisher, Princess Diana and Madonna are just a few women who have worn suits to big events. As for men wearing dresses people like Benedict Cumberbatch, Billy Porter and Harry Styles have all worn a dress.

What can you do to change people's view on clothing?

If you drink tea everyday, you will be healthy. Tea really helps you prevent cognitive diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. Oolong tea is also high in polyphenols, which are linked to lowering inflammation, preventing the growth of cancers and decreasing type 2 diabetes risk.

Tea helps you to prevent cognitive diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, and it can help you for other health reasons. For example, black tea can be steamed, cooled and then pressed on minor cuts, scrapes and bruises to relieve pain and reduce swelling. A black tea bath can also ease inflammation caused by skin rashes and conditions such as poison ivy. Furthermore, Oolong tea is notable for containing l-theanine, an amino acid that reduces anxiety and increases alertness and attention. Scientists have found that l-theanine can help prevent cognitive diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. Oolong tea is also high in polyphenols, which are linked to lowering inflammation, preventing the growth of cancers and decreasing type 2 diabetes risk.

In addition, tea also helps you to lose your weight, and wear beautiful clothes. A cup of this herbal brew each day isn't likely to get you back into your skinny jeans. But some research suggests tea may help you lose a very small amount of weight when you pair it with a sensible diet and exercise. And consider this: If you swap out your morning mocha latte for a cup of tea with lemon, you'll trim almost 300 calories from your daily total. Similarly, teas have a type of flavonoid called catechins that may boost metabolism and help your body break down fats more quickly. And the caffeine in many teas increases your energy use, causing your body to burn more calories.

Some people might say that tea is unhealthy, they may put some herbs that make it have side effects when it is added to the tea. I disagree because The FDA has issued warnings about so-called dieter's teas that contain senna, aloe, buckthorn, and other plant-derived laxatives. Clearly, drinking a cup of tea everyday also can burn through more calories, and therefore help you drop the number on the scale.

Drinking tea can help you a lot, just drinking a cup of tea can help you prevent cognitive diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, and it can help you for other health reasons, lose weight.

Who's the GOAT of basketball (greatest of all time). The correct answer would be a global icon on and off the floor who has never lost an NBA finals… Michael Jordan

The only player who people say is better than Jordan is LBJ. However Jordan IS better. For starters he's won more finals than LeBron and hasn't lost one.

Stats wise Jordan is better in almost everything except Assists and rebounds.

ppg Jordan 30.1 LeBron 27.0 steals per game Jordan 2.3 LeBron 1.6 Playoff points per game, Jordan 33.4 LeBron 28.8 in their most scoring seasons Jordan 37.1 LeBron 31.4 most scoring playoffs Jordan 43.7 ppg, LeBron 35.3.

Jordan 6 championships. Lebron has 4. LeBron has played 18 season so far , Jordan 15 Jordan 6-0 in finals LeBron 4-10.

Two major sports article both have Jordan 1 and LeBron (CBS, ESPN)

“The Greatest player of all time” (referring to mj)

“Global icon on and off the court”

“MVP”

“6 championships”-ESPN
“The name says it all. The statistics do as well. Add on six-time NBA Finals MVP 10-time scoring leader, nine time all defensive teamer and the GOAT.”-CBS SPORTS

Most LeBron fans would say something like this, LeBron has more Rebounds ,assists, and better shot% than Jordan. To that I say... Of course he has more rebounds per game he is a bigger man. Jordan had the ball more because he was a better scorer and lebron was a (slightly) better passer because he passed the balls so much more than jordan.

Jordan was a better scorer than Lebron ,shooting Jordan more. Also Jordan has a better PER meaning he is more efficient despite shot% also LeBron turns the ball over WAY more than Jordan as well.

SO if you were wrong has your opinion changed? Do you now understand who the true GOAT of basketball is. After reading this there is no way that you don't think Michael Jeffrey Jordan is the GOAT of Basketball.
