Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt Main. She had a sister named Margot Frank who was three years older than Anne. The hatred Jews received made Anne's parents, Otto and Edith Frank, decide to move to Amsterdam when Anne was only four years old. There, Otto founded a company that traded in Pectin. Anne spent most of her time reading and writing in her journal or spending her time with nature. Patrick read Anne's story and considers her a very sweet and caring girl.

The people who joined Anne Frank and her family behind the bookshelf were, Hermann, Auguste Peter van Pels, and Fritz Pfeffer; and the helpers: Johannes Kleiman, Victor Kugler, Bep Voskuijl and Jan and Miep Gies. They were completely dependent on the six helpers, employees, and friends of Anne's father. The helpers provided food and clothing, books, magazines, and newspapers. Everyone in the hidden annex had to share the littlest beds. they could only flush the toilet every once and a while, and couldn't make any noise or look outside. The Nazis worked in the warehouse from early in the morning to late at night. Anne Frank and the others were behind the hidden bookshelf for a total of two years before being arrested.

The Nazi Gestapo captured 15-year-old Anne Frank and her family in the hidden annex of an Amsterdam warehouse in 1944, 2 years after going into hiding in the secret annex. The Franks had taken shelter there in 1942 out of fear of deportation to a Nazi concentration camp. They occupied the small space with another Jewish family and a single Jewish man and were aided by friends, who brought them food and supplies. Anne spent much of her time in the secret annex, working on her diary. The diary survived the war, overlooked by the Gestapo that discovered the hiding place in 1944.

“I need to have something besides a husband and children to devote myself to! I don’t want to have lived in vain like most people. I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people, even those I’ve never met. I want to go on living even after my death! And that’s why I’m so grateful to God for having given me this gift, which I can use to develop myself and to express all that’s inside me! When I write I can shake off my cares. The sorrow disappears, my spirits are revived! But, and that’s a big question, will I ever be able to write something great, will I ever become a journalist or a writer? I hope so, oh, I hope so very much, because writing allows me to record everything, all my thoughts, ideals and fantasies.”

– 5th April, 1944, ‘Diary of A Young Girl’
