A group of 8th graders from Oriveden yhteiskoulu visited the research vessel Aranda in Helsinki 27 August. The pupils participated on Aranda in a guided tour organized by the Finnish Environmental Institute Syke. The group was invited to the tour as project participants of A BlueLights project "Baltic Sea Matters".

Vaasan lyseon lukiossa vietettiin tänään perinteistä Itämeripäivää.

Koululla järjestettiin Itämeri-elokuvafestivaali, jossa kuultiin Itämeriesitys ja katsottiin luontodokumentti Itämerestä. Koululounaaksi oli Itämeren kalapuikkoja. Iltapäivän oppitunnilla kaikki toisen vuoden opiskelijat osallistuivat Muoviton meri -roskien keräykseen Vaasan ranta-alueella. Konsta voitti oudoin ja turhin roska -kilpailun. Sektori A:n siivonneet opiskelijat keräsivät eniten roskia ja voittivat yllätyspalkinnon.

Teemapäivän järjestämisestä vastasi koulun Itämeri-ryhmän opiskelijat yhteistyössä Pohjanmaan Luonto Liiton ja Vaasan kulttuuripalvelujen kanssa.

Vaasan lyseon lukio on UNESCO Aspnet -koulu ja UNESCO Baltic Sea Project -koulu eli Itämeri-koulu.

Meie õpetajad ja lasteaia juhtkond tähistasid Läänemere päeva ühise heateoga – läksime randa, et anda oma panus puhtama ja kaunima keskkonna nimel.

Koos korjasime ja sorteerisime prügi ning arutasime, kuidas iga väike tegu aitab hoida meie merd ja randu. See oli nii praktiline kui ka silmiavav kogemus – oma käega näha, millises seisus on meie kodune Läänemeri, pani meid kõiki rohkem mõtlema vastutusele looduse ees.

As part of the Baltic Sea Day at Pangapealse Kindergarten, we conducted an experiment to remove an oil spill (mazut) from water. To simulate mazut, we used cocoa and cooking oil. We added blue ink to the water and carefully introduced the oil spill, which the children later tried to clean up using different tools.
We discussed why oil pollution is dangerous for water birds, animals and fish.
To demonstrate this, we dipped bird feathers into the "mazut", and the children observed that the dirt wouldn't come off the feathers.

Meie tähistasime Läänemere päeva õppereisiga Tamperesse, kus me võrdlesime Eesti ja Soome 19. saj tööstusehitiste pärandi kasutamist tänapäeval. Kuna me käisime eelmine aasta Narvas Kreenholmi tehases, siis oli meil hea võrrelda Tampere ja Narva tehaste kasutamist tänapäeval.

We celebrated Baltic Sea Day with a study trip to Tampere, where we compared the use of the heritage of 19th-century industrial buildings in Estonia and Finland today. Since we visited the Kreenholm factory in Narva last year, it was good for us to compare the use of the Tampere and Narva factories today.

🌊 Baltic Sea Day at our Curiosity Center 🐟
Today we dove (almost literally) into the world of the Baltic Sea – because today is International Baltic Sea Day! 💙

🐠 We explored why fish are important to us. We got to know different fish, discussed the role of reeds, driftwood and even seaweed in our marine ecosystem.

🎣 And what would Baltic Sea Day be without a taste of Estonia’s national fish – the Baltic herring? 🐟 The bravest cleaned the herrings, after which we fried them in the pan until golden.

🌍 Awareness begins with curiosity – and ours is only just beginning!

Tähistasime Läänemerepäeva projektõppepäevana "Meie huvi=Maailma huvi". Sidusime selle päeva maailmakoristuspäevaga. Päev sisaldas loovtegevusi pakenditest ja koristustalguid.

1.-4. kl pakendimärgistusega tutvumine ja kaasavõetud pakendite märgistuste uurimine ning järgi joonistamine.

5.-12. kl tegid pakenditest installatsioone, plakateid ja muid loovtegevusi, keskendudes kestlikuarengu eesmärgile "Puhas vesi ja sanitaartingimused".

Peale loovtegevusi toimusid koristustalgud.

In the Nordplus Junior project Our Baltic Sea, the partner schools celebrate theme days connected to our project topics.

This year, the Baltic Sea Day celebration of the Nordplus Junior project schools was part of the BSP network activities: We marked the International Baltic Sea Day by organizing a Nordplus Junior project meeting in Helsinki. During our project meeting in Finland, we held a workshop day at Suomenlinna in Helsinki.

Suomenlinna is one of the UNESCO world heritage sites in Finland. In Suomenlinna workshops, meeting participants learned more about the Baltic Sea and also about cultural heritage.
