My parents do not want me to follow their footsteps in terms of career because they believe their careers are not that great. My Mom is a manager at a restaurant and my Dad is unemployed due to a back injury he had gotten years ago. If my Dad did not injure his back he would be working in construction. My parents believe that I should aim for any goal that I want and they want me to aim high. They believe that aiming for a higher career will allow me to help my family out and will make our lives a lot easier than it is right now. I believe that parents should not pressure their kids too much to follow their footsteps because they are not thinking about how their child will feel working on a job that they do not want. 

2. The first quality I admire in a person is how they treat and talk to one another. I think this quality is very important because I think that people should treat others the way they would like to be treated. Another quality that I admire is if the person can solve problems. Sometimes we are put in hard situations and you have to figure out a way to solve the problems. The third quality is the decisions the person makes. I think that people’s decision do show a little bit of their character and making the right choice is important. The fourth quality is humbleness. I personally do not like it when people brag a lot about their things or wins. I wouldn’t mind if they talk about it but when they begin to talk about how they are the best I get a little annoyed. The fifth quality is how well they can get along with certain people. I believe what this epigraph is trying to explain is that anything can leave the minds of children but education is one thing that will always stick with them. Education will stick with the children which will then help them in the future. This passage really speaks about how anything can leave your mind but having an education will stick with you which wil bring more outcomes for the future. I also think this passage is trying to suggest that without education you will be empty in the head, meaning that you do not have a very high intelligence. But overall education is important for the youth and it cannot be taken away from us because it is what builds our future.

I think that this passage is telling me that there will be possibilities that are given to you and you have to have the courage to see what’s inside and fulfill it. I think the book symbolizes many different possiblities because when you have a book that you have never read you do not know what is inside and you do not know what will happen. So when you open the book and try to read it there are many different outcomes that can come your way. Having the courage to open the book represents a way to stand up for what’s right and to just leap not knowing what will happen. Sonny notices that his father likes his older brother more because he can play football and was well built. While Sonny was scrawny. Sonny notices that his mother is the only person in his family who cares about him and believes that he can do great things. Homer, Sr., did not want to waste his time on Sonny so he instructed his wife to, “just take care of this one before he embarrasses me all over Coal wood” (Hickman 41). After Sonny’s failed attempt of building a rocket he destroys his mother’s yard. Sonny knows that his father dislikes him because he wanted a daughter and ended up with Sonny. So Homer, Sr., does not even bother to scold Sonny because he does not really care for him. After getting tons of noise complaints from the neighbors and the people all around Coal wood, Elsie encourages Sonny to continue building rockets but, “not behind the house, dear. You need to find a better place” (Hickman 72). Homer has been making tons of noise with the rockets and his family has been getting tons of calls about noise complaints. So Elsie encourages Sonny to find a better place to secretly test his rockets because she believes in him. Sonny knows that if he keeps pushing he can make his mother proud. Sonny thinks that family should be there for one another. Overall Sonny believes that only his mother cares for him and everyone else does not.
