I agree that too often teachers focus on the weaknesses instead of focusing on strengths and playing off that. It was a good reminder to use what works for a student and build off of that. I think the key to UDL in the inclusion classroom has to be collaboration between gen ed and sped. I think my district really struggles with this concept. Some gen ed teachers want all students to fit in this idea of a student they have and participate in class just like the gen ed students and that is not always going to work, and that is ok! Teachers at my district seem to "stress out" the moment a sped kid doesn't fit their idea of what student should do or look like in the classroom. I like giving the choice assignments. I think this is major for all students because it gives them ownership over assignments. They feel they are more in control of the work being assigned. Since both off these character/plot development I thought they could be paired together. I also paired based on weaknesses but adding some that had strengths into the groups as well. I did want to make sure and provide enrichment for those showing mastery so that they could be challenged with a deeper level of knowledge and instruction. I learned how to set my rotations and stations for small groups. I loved the colorful and inviting setup used. I feel this will appeal to the students so they will want to engage. In the beginning the setup may take a lot, however I feel it will be very helpful for the students.

I’m a visual learner so sometimes when people explain things to me, I can’t visualize unless I can physically see it. UDL gives students choice in how they learn and how they can retain the knowledge. UDL takes the content and provides that same content in different ways for students to learn.
