  • July 28, 1914: World War I begins; This is the cause to over 18 million deaths worldwide, causing people to resent Yugoslavia
  • May 18, 1978: Sarajevo unexpectedly wins vote to host 1984 Winter Olympics by the IOC, beating out Sapporo, Japan and Gothenburg, Sweden
  • February 6-7, 1984: In desperate need of snow, one of the biggest snowstorms in years hits Sarajevo, covering the city in white.
  • February 8, 1984: Winter Olympic games start in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia
  • February 14, 1984: Jure Franko wins silver medal in giant slalom, giving Yugoslavia their first ever medal
  • February 19, 1984: The Sarajevo Winter Olympic games concludes
  • April 6, 1992: Less than a decade after hosting the olympics, the Bosnian war starts, killing thousands
  • December 14, 1995: The war finally ends, but the republic of Yugoslavia breaks up and divides into smaller countries

A podium which once had  Finnish skier Matti Nykänen holding a gold gold medal while singing his national anthem, has turned into a broken, and abandoned  podium. During the war, some if these podium were used for execution.
