Even with their great contributes to the WWII war effort, African Americans came home to their jobs of little pay and no recognition. In 1941 African Americans planned to march on Washington if President Franklin D. Roosevelt did not allow for equal employment rights. To prevent, he did issue and Executive Order no longer allowing pay discrimination based on means of race. However, little actually changed.

Like those led by the beloved Martin Luther King Jr, many protests were peaceful, at least by way of the African Americans. King stood for achievement of equality by peace, giving speeches and leading marches, he inspired many across the country to join the movement. Other Civil Rights leaders had different views of the movement.

These events paved way for his passionate hate for the White man, and his view on using violence “by any means necessary.”

The catchphrase took off, as people all over social media began to use “BlackLivesMatter.
