But the difference between the two is that the colonists didn't have the British leering over their every move. The Irish did. When the Irish formed an organization that the British didn't like, it was forcibly taken down. This effectively stopped any form of mobilization that would truly threaten the British. Even so, the Irish kept trying. After many failings, the rebellion finally took hold in Ireland, and they fought for their freedom. Even when they lost, there were some smaller groups who tried to fight back. Despite the fact that they lost, the 1798 Irish Rebellion is a great example of the Enlightenment ideals.
