I was only aware of the local issues of social injustice towards the lower caste people and no facilities were given to come up in life. So the Jesuit priests were working for those people. In school, we were taught about equality between males and females during the value education and catechism classes. When I was in the youth movement at Parish Church I came to know more about these issues and had a discussion about them. Later when I joined the convent we were given awareness about developing and developed countries, globalization, industrialization, MNCs, World Bank, first world and third world countries, etc., These gave me knowledge about undeveloped countries. Poverty is the main crisis due to the unequal distribution of wealth. This affects the people’s basic needs food, shelter, safe drinking water, and sanitation. When the basic needs are not met it automatically affects the future of their children by not sending them to education or being dropouts and even if the government provides free education in Government schools still the regularity to attend school is more. Hunger, not having safe drinking water and poor sanitation leads to poor health. The main reason is that they don’t have regular jobs or money. The people from villages due to poor agriculture, move to cities where they find themselves in slums. It continues generation after generation. There is no improvement in their lifestyle. Every ruling political party plan many projects, but it doesn't reach fully to uplift the poor people, for example, the government allots money to build houses, in the name of slum clearance) but due to corruption, there are houses built, it doesn't last even for a few years. (My personal experience). The question remains in our mind that even though plans are made to improve their situation, the poverty in India is the same. The whole World witnessed during the pandemic the struggles of the poor people who have migrated for jobs moving back to their native place by walking more than five hundred kilometers. It was a heartbreaking moment when we heard the news from different channels. There were few NGOs and Religious people who reached out to solve the issues, yet the way forward to solve their long-term issues of joblessness needs to be seen by the state governments. The wealth should not be accumulated among a few percentages of people. This school is run by Presentation Sisters for the poor children where I have witnessed the work of this NGO. In our school, they are mainly focusing on girls’ education and their good health. They have appointed a female office staff to visit children’s houses, monitor, report, and document the work done at school for these children. They have also an additional support staff to cook morning and afternoon food for them during school days. Most of the school children benefited through their constant support. Apart from these, I have seen this NGO provides the facility for safe drinking water in government schools. I also have come to the realization while reading the article that they work for gender and development, livelihood interventions to enhance income, address the disabilities of children, disaster management, and advocacy with the government to build a nation that cares for the children. This organization works in India for the past 70 years and is very much child-focused. It’s a non-profit organization. Their vision for every child is that life in all its fulness. Through their project they have reached out to 1,08,420 children to have access basic hand washing system in school premises, 83,332 children are reached out by health workers, 41,221 children and youth have been made aware of violence against children through an awareness programme, and 6351 disabled children under their care. (Age group 5 to 10). This was implemented in 2005 as Activity Based Learning which is student-based learning and replaces the rote learning method. It has two methods according to the classes that are ‘Simplified Activity Based Learning’ (SABL) for std 1 and 2 and ‘Simplified Active Learning Methodology’ (SALM) for classes 3 to 5. This was a radical step by the government shifting from teacher-centered learning to student-centered. This method aims at flourishing children’s abilities and improving knowledge and creativity. Indeed, learning occurs under the guidance of the teacher. Moreover, in the classroom environment, the students are made into small groups and learn on their own with the direction of the teacher and peers. It is also important to highlight that the students are assessed by the Constant Complete Evaluation (CCE) method with curricular and co-curricular activities. This is to reduce the fear of examination, there is no marking of the pass or fail. It is an effective system to reduce dropouts and create joyful learning on the school premises. This also has reduced the insecure feelings among students of primary level. Tamil Nadu was the pioneer state to improvise the system of primary education and has been marked as an example for other states in India to implement the same. I feel according to the developing world, we need to produce students who can be creative and critical in analysing the acquired knowledge. The reason behind my thinking is owing to past years proving and witnessing the gradual human growth in technology but the human approach between people and countries towards one another remains the same. Every century speaks through history, the poor remain poor for generations. The rich grow in plenty and never have bothered about the livelihood and wellness of others intentionally. This state of mind will be continuing in the future. The causes I foresee is that the population which will be heavier in some parts of the world. This continually has an influence on basic needs, education, job opportunities, and climate. There will be also a demand for cultivation due to less groundwater levels and climatic change. The world will face a lot of natural calamities which in turn affect the less privileged people. All these will absolutely affect the suffering humanity, on the contrary, wealthy people will flourish in their richness by producing and acquiring extravagance. The developed countries will augment the rich sophisticated life system in the day-to-day living, education system, job opportunities, technological growth, medical facilities, and production of food. The wealth will be circulated only within the country. The transport of goods, imports, and exports will reduce due to less production of natural resources. In case of necessary goods transfer between countries will be levied under heavy taxation. This outlook of mine presumes fewer opportunities to have a just, and sustainable society in 200 years’ time. It’s an interesting and very serious topic. Normally I explain scientifically how it is being affected, why we speak about it, who is the cause of it, and the connection between pollution, carbon emission, Industrialization, globalization, greenhouse gases, etc. I show them the videos to explain the above terms. I encourage them to use electricity, and water sparingly keeps away from using plastics, and use common transport. In this way, I describe climate change by connecting its causes and effects.

Concerned about the present learning, I’ll improvise my teaching about climate change apart from explaining scientifically and asking them to use social networks. I’ll group them to study the present situation regarding climate change and the people who work for the same cause, especially young people. This activity will be shared in the class as their acquired knowledge to motivate them individually to explore the cause of carbon footprints which is produced by the industries, products in the market, and the mode of transport, etc. I’ll encourage them to discuss and debate about the exploration by the students to choose eco-friendly materials and find out from them the other ways of supporting the cause locally and globally. I’ll also help them to join the signature campaigns and communicate the same to their family and friends. The students also will be given a chance to share the same during the assemblies and depict their learning on the bulletin board. At this stage introducing the student-based exploration methods will create a ripple effect as they move on to the higher classes which will promote the consciousness towards climate change.

For example, when the parents take you to the shop if they allow you to choose and guide you to select the right one. Since I was brought up in a situation where I was given a chance to decide and choose, that has made me learn to take decisions from a younger age. This was according to my family background whereas in the school where I studied the decisions are made by the teachers and the management. The school surrounding didn’t give us an opportunity to take decisions.  In the present scenario, I see the school captains having a forum that offers the chance to suggest their opinions, but the decision is with the management. 

A glimpse of my major life decision: It was to choose a religious life. I explored different ways of selecting the Congregation which will lead me to focus on my call. I was quite strong in my decision even though many barrios were on the way. Since this was my way of life, I need to abide by my superiors, and the decision for my life and mission is carried out by them with the consultation of myself. In the same way, there are many decisions that are decided by me in the daily run of the school and the major decisions are with the collaboration of the Correspondent and considering the opinions of the staff. I always discuss with the staff before taking decisions pertaining to academic activities. From my experience of being the school head, decision-making is very much important at the right time to lead good governance. There are sometimes we need a think tank from outer resources to induce critical thinking to bring and adapt innovative ideas to move further in our decisions from the familiar work. So, we do consult the department officials, educationists, and other school heads to sharpen our decisions.
