Ruby Bridges

Ruby bridges was a little African American girl. She became the first African American girl who went to a "white school" in the south. She was born on September 8, 1954. She was the oldest of five children, her parents were Lucille and Abon Bridges they were farmers in Tylertown. Southern states refused to desegregate, the schools allowed African Americans to go to a "white school" but they had to take a test to enter the school. Ruby and 5 other kids passed the exam but 2 kids didn't leave their school and the other 3 were sent to McDonough Elementary school. Ruby and her mom were always escorted by 4 federal marshals. No one would play with her at school nor talked to her, some parents took their kids to another school. The only person Ruby would talk to and play with was her teacher. She never missed a day of school. Ruby is still alive, she is 67 years old and she lives in New Orleans.

"Oxford town" By Bob Dylan

The lyrics say "Guns and clubs followed him down
All because his face was brown" because it's saying how black people would get killed because of their skin color. I wonder If Bob Dylan wrote this song as a memorial for someone. I think this because the song says "Two men died 'near the Mississippi moon Somebody better investigate soon." Based on the lyrics I think Bob wrote it as a memorial for a black person who was killed in oxford town. After listening to this song, I determined the purpose of the song is for people to stop killing black people because of their skin color.

I hear a very relaxing rhythm coming from a guitar. When this song was written it impacted many people, it even impacted the president of the united states. Based on the lyrics I think it's trying to say that the suffering will soon end.

Ruth and the green book caught my attention because it's sad how a KID had to go through discrimination on a daily basis. Ruth couldn't go to the bathroom because of her skin color, so she had to go to the forest with her mom because they weren't allowed to go to the bathroom. They kept driving until they found a place to stay and the man gave them a map where black people are welcomed. The book was called the Green Book. It was very useful for them because anywhere they went, they felt welcomed.
