The Course of American History

From the early beginnings of landing at Plymouth Rock, to the Election of George Washington as America's first President, this land of new beginnings and opportunity has been molded by the events in and throughout her early history. With the presidency heavy on the country's mind, the art will take the viewer back in time to experience the first president and how it happened. This systematic hang will educate the viewer an immerse them into the days of early America. In the beginning (at least with colonial and European influence) we have the Mayflower compact being sign and the Mayflower's journey to America. Here we find settlers setting up early American lifestyles and law. We also get a glimpse at King George III who was the King at the time, the one overseeing the trip to the new land. With the unfavorable ruling of the crown, settlers in America decided that they wanted to break off from their old ways, hence the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the American revolution, and our first president. The experience in this room is supposed to take you from the present presidential election, into the time of early American history, and too our first president. To guide viewers better understanding of the U.S. and it's history is the brief story through paintings of how our country came to be, and just how we gained our freedom and first president.

The American Rebellion

On painting #4, we see George III portrayed in a beautiful life-like painting. He is dressed in regal attire with badges that represent the country that he rules over. During his ruling, he experienced political hardships, mainly the American Revolution. To his dismay, he tried to regain the colonies, but ended up failing in doing so. There were other rebellions against his ruling, such as the Boston Tea party, that took place as well.

The Signing of the Declaration of Independence

To capture the monumental moment in History, Jefferson wanted the painter John Turmbull to create this piece (painting #5). The already detailed and thoughtful painting is more thoughtful and detailed then many would think. The goal of the painting was to make it as accurate as possible and with everyone in it. It was mentioned that this goal was not achieved however.

George Washington history

Through out his life, George Washington was a man of many achievements, had fought in several battles and wars, and was even the first president of the United States. The painter, Gilbert Stuart, took many things into consideration while painting the portrait (painting #7) such as his stance, the art style, and so forth. The style is mentioned by the Smithsonian and Stuart to replicate regal European portraits.

The Framers History

The signers of the Declaration of Independence were known as the Framers. Object #6 is a print published by the Centennial Portrait and Autograph Co., and pictures the signers of the declaration of Independence, as well as several other iconic representations of American life. Such as on the Declaration of Independence, each person has their signature.
