If you are building a course from scratch, you may want to utilize a backward design approach to identify your course goals, learning objectives, learning outcomes, assessments and delivery methods. 

However, most faculty will probably be converting an existing classroom-based course into a hybrid course and may already have a syllabus with goals, objectives and outcomes in place. In this case, it may be easier for you to simply identify which elements of the existing course go online and which elements stay face-to-face. 

What goes online and what stays face-to-face? You may want to consider several factors, including:

  • the class schedule (keeping in mind that CCQ hybrid students usually study online during the week and then study in the classroom on the weekend)
  • mode suitability (some elements, such as those requiring guided interaction or collaboration may be more suitable for the classroom, while other elements may be more suitable to independent online learning)
