Opium smoking was very addictive so a lot of people had an opium set. Since there was a demand for opium sets, many opium dens offered supplementary services such as Chinese Tea. After a few years, social activists such as the philanthropist, Chen Su Lan started the anti-opium clinic in 1933 because the opium addictions got very bad. The traditional cheongsam fitted loosely and hung straight down the body. However, cheongsams became more mordernised. This shows that a lot of people enjoy playing Mahjong. People played Mahjong both competitively and for leisure purposes. But now, the popularity for these activities have decreased.
