Sexuality, in regards to how it is shown through media is censored in a very peculiar way. Like mentioned in the article, my students have noticed the lack of main characters that are from similar backgrounds as them. When characters are created that may look like them, they tend to have over dramatized lifestyles that don't actually match the lives of my students, but more match the way people perceive my students life to be based on their stereotypes. If my students are noticing this, why would they be motivated to read "pleasure reading books," when these books don't give them any sort of pleasure because of their noticing? It was nice that this article gave a list of books that I can recommend to be added to our library.
