The Story of CJ

Hi! I’m Ciaran Jarreth A. Algabre, but almost everyone just calls me CJ. I’m 17 years old and currently studying at Ateneo de Davao Senior High School, Grade 12 - Azevedo. If you ever meet me, you’ll quickly notice I’m someone who loves to move literally. I enjoy activities that keep me on my feet, especially running and taekwondo. They’re not just hobbies for me; they’re a way of life that keeps me alive.

When I’m not on the move, I love winding down with a good movie or TV show. I’m also into reading, watching sports, and of course, enjoying good food—as long as it’s not sour! I’m not a fan of uncertainty, wasting time, or procrastinating, which is why I try to live each day with purpose. Whether I’m training, studying, or just relaxing, I always aim to make the most out of every moment.This is just the beginning of my journey, but I’m excited for where it’s headed.

Letter to my future self

Dear future self,

How are you? I want to say a few things so here's one of them. Just know that however you're doing right now I'm proud of you. I'm proud of all the blood sweat and tears you put in for my future and your present I'm proud that you put it that effort for yourself and for those you love I am proud of you. I hope that you're taking care of yourself and that you're living the life that you dreamed of. Good luck man and I wish you the best.

Infancy

When I was an infant, life was simple. Physically, I was just this small, cute baby with brown skin who was either crying, smiling, or asleep most of the time. Socially, my world revolved only around my mom and dad, and the only way I really communicated with them was through crying or laughter. I didn’t have any real skills back then except eating and sleeping, and my inner self was nothing more than wanting milk and comfort. What truly defined me during this stage was simply learning how to survive crawling, being cared for, and bonding with my parents even if I can’t clearly remember those days.

Early Childhood

As I grew into early childhood, I started to experience the world in bigger ways. Physically, I got a little taller and learned how to walk, run, and play. Socially, I went to playschool and began making new friends, discovering how to bond with other kids outside of my family. In terms of skills, I learned to talk, write, and read, slowly becoming more independent. My inner thoughts also started to deepen, and I wasn’t just focused on my basic needs anymore — I was becoming more curious about the things around me. A big memory from this stage was starting playschool at just 2 years old, where I joined activities, played with classmates, and began enjoying the fun of learning.

Preschool

Preschool was a stage that opened up even more for me. Physically, I was active and playful, always curious and full of energy. Socially, I became even more outgoing since I was constantly exposed to more classmates and playmates, which helped me become less shy. I also began building small skills, like coloring, singing songs, and memorizing rhymes, which gave me pride in doing things on my own. Inside, my imagination grew stronger — I loved pretend play, stories, and creating little worlds in my head. One of my most memorable experiences was performing in class activities like dancing or singing. Even though I felt nervous at first, I started enjoying being on stage, which taught me how to share moments with others.

Elementary

Elementary years were a turning point because I entered a bigger school. Physically, I kept growing taller, but I still felt like the same version of myself. Socially, I went out of my comfort zone, made new friends, and switched groups often since our batch was pretty big and I liked exploring different circles. Competence-wise, I was introduced to new skills like math, reading harder subjects, and actually understanding concepts instead of just memorizing. These gave me confidence and even earned me a scholarship, which made me proud of my progress. My thoughts also matured as I learned how to problem-solve and reflect more deeply. Every year felt like I was “leveling up,” improving bit by bit and laying the foundation for the person I was becoming.

Adolescence

Adolescence then arrived, and it was both challenging and rewarding. My first year of high school was online, which wasn’t fun at all most days were just endless Google Meets in front of a computer. Physically, I got chubbier from sitting at home and eating a lot, which lowered my confidence for a while. Socially, I only had three close friends during those years, but I was grateful since they made online school more bearable. Later on, in grade 9, I met a new group of friends, and by grade 10, I got reunited with many of my old ones, which led to my best and happiest year in high school. I developed new skills like playing chess, and I also became really good at video games and puzzles. Most importantly, my inner self stayed positive — I was surrounded by close friends, laughter, and moments that shaped who I am today. Adolescence, for me, became a time of joy, growth, and finding confidence again, proving that even after struggles, happiness can always return.

FIRST STEP

I am currently trying my best in senior high school. I am enrolled in the strand of ABM and I am studying with the goal of just maintaining third honor while at the same time having fun and making the most of my senior high school life. My philosophy is to always balance academics and my social life, I never sacrifice one for the other and I always make time for my loved ones and friends. I chose this strand because this strand was what I felt was right for me and aligned with my goals and future plans. I believe that I can make the most out of this strand and that I will succeed through the knowledge I gain in the time I spend in senior high school.

I will pursue my college education at Ateneo de Davao University because I believe that it is an excellent academic institution and a place that is the most suited for my present situation. My plan is to take up BS Accountancy. This is because it lines up with my strand and my plan and it is my goal.

I will prioritize my time management, I want to continue maintaining a balance between academics and social life, this entails studying to get good grades but not forgetting my friends and family.For my goal in academics its to hopefully maintain honors while making sure I actually absorb the knowledge and not just get good grades. For the social side of things I want to be able to make new friends and enjoy hanging out with them and enjoy the new environment. Overall, I want to get just the right balance and enjoy my college life to the fullest.

FOURTH STEP

The next step for me after graduating is to take the CPALE. This will entail reviewing after I graduate and trying my best to prepare myself for the test. Once I pass the CPALE I plan on working at an accounting firm or any company that hires me. I plan on working for at least 5 years before I try to transition to a work from home position such as a virtual assistant or virtual accountant.Lastly during this period of time, I also plan on starting a business that I can grow as a secondary source of income and hopefully transition into my main source of income over time.

FIFTH STEP

Once I hopefully transition to a work from home position, I want to pursue a Master’s degree in Accounting as a means of furthering my career and education. I want to start pursuing this once I’m in a work from home setup to make it more convenient for me and for my family. During this time I will continue managing my business while at the same time working.

SIXTH STEP

Once I finish my master's degree, I plan on focusing my efforts on my business and growing it. When I believe that my business is enough to sustain my family and my goals, I will resign from my position and fully put in my efforts to my business, not just for myself but for my loved ones and for my children as something that they can inherit and be proud of.

For me Personal Development was very helpful, as it helped me discover myself more through the lessons it taught me. It shed light on who I truly was as a person and it made me grateful for myself. It showed me that there was more to life than what I knew and it made me renew my point of view on life and for that I’m very grateful.

My key takeaway from this subject is that discovering who you truly are is one of lifes greatest challenges and accomplishments. It showed me that there was so much depth to my identity and who I am as a person, son, student, friend, and so much more. It made me realize that I am also worth effort and love, it taught me to love myself and not just keep on giving to others. It taught me many many valuable lessons and I’m so thankful for everything that it has taught me.

two as my favorite because they cover 2 topics that I am very interested in considering they play a major part in my life. The lesson on mental health taught me that there is much more depth to a person than what you see on the outside. Meanwhile, the lesson on love told me that love is a beautiful thing that is both simple and complex; it made me realize that love is one of the most beautiful things in the world.
