They may struggle to make friends, form and participate in group projects.<br><br><strong>Communication: </strong>Students with ASD may have difficulty communicating effectively with instructors, peers, or school staff. Making it challenging to ask for help, clarify information, or participate in class discussions.<br><br><strong>Executive functioning: </strong>Students with ASD may struggle with executive functioning skills, such as time management, organization, and planning. Making it challenging to keep up with coursework, complete assignments on time, and manage multiple tasks.<br><br><strong>Sensory sensitivities:</strong> Students with ASD may be hypersensitive to sensory inputs, such as noise, smells, and lighting. Making it challenging to focus on classwork or participate in activities that involve sensory stimulation.<br><br><strong>Unstructured environments: </strong>College and university environments can be unstructured and unpredictable, which can be very challenging for individuals with ASD who need predictability and routine in their day to day. <br><br><strong>Anxiety and stress:</strong> Students with ASD may be more prone to anxiety and stress, which can be triggered by academic demands and social pressures. </div><div><br></div>]]></description>

Smart watches now have the capability to help with some skills such as goal setting, planning, and monitoring goals. On some smartwatches, such as the Apple Watch, you can set timers and reminders to go off at specific times or places which can with living skills. FOr example, there is an app called Reminder that can be set to go off every day at 7am to remind someone to brush their teeth.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

Some challenges and barriers are:&nbsp;</div><ul><li><strong>Executive Functioning: </strong>Individuals with autism often struggle with executive functioning skills such as organizing, planning, prioritizing, decision making, etc. Many of these skills are imperative when going through day to day living.&nbsp;</li><li><strong>Reliant on others:</strong>&nbsp; Individuals with autism are often reliant on others more than those without autism due to not having the skills necessary to be able to adapt to everyday living.&nbsp;</li><li><strong>Lack of Adaptive Skills: </strong>Being able to dress yourself, bath yourself, preparing meals, riding a bus, crossing the street, and shopping are all daily living skills that those without autism learn by observation. Individuals with autism often lack the ability to learn these skills and need to be taught these skills. These skills are necessary in order for an individual to be independent for daily living. </li></ul>]]></description>
