The project is one part memory, one part dream - expressed through stories, recollections, art and sound.

With an exhibition, events, online presence and a publication, it tells the historical story of Krugozor and asks “where is the dream of an international utopia beyond borders now?”

The history of Krugozor is researched and the stories of those who worked there are collected - along with those of readers who were influenced by it.

The publication is in the form of a new Krugozor magazine - designed exactly as the old - with images, words and audio but augmented by a digital dimension and life

The content explores boundaries and borders with stories, images and audio from the edge, from the furthermost points of the old empires, where they touched the world beyond. What do we find there now? Whose voices do we hear?

At a time when viruses and the internet have shown us that borders only exist in our imagination can we re-imagine these places and points of crossing?

Is it still possible to dream of a world beyond ideology, where community is not defined by national territory?

KRUGOZOR 2024 is an international project based in Russia, crossing the borders of the old ‘western’ and ‘eastern’ blocs as Krugozor originally dreamed.

Its prime curators are a Russian artist, Sergey Korsakov and a British artist Stephen Coates. The project will invite artists, writers and musicians to participate to investigate its themes.

How can we sustainably perform/ present our existing works in other countries, considering the impact on the environment, and viability of international travel.
Am thinking in particular of our show ON EDGE, which entails a team off 12 on the road and a large scaffolding structure that needs a 12t truck for transport.
https://www.justiceinmotion.co.uk/show/on-edge/

What are alternative options?
* create film version that can be available globally, and then combine it with either in person or online workshops? (would we loose the power of live experience of the show though?)
* Re-create the show in the partnering country with local artists? (yet what happens with the set that is being built in various countries - would it be more sustainable to tour the existing set? and actually more affordable to simply bring the existing troupe abroad?)
* Create new work entirely with international partners abroad, and just bring a small team to develop the work there, based on our creative practice.
-> that is if it is about work by 'Justice in Motion', rather than doing an international collaboration where all partners enter the relationship equally, that is different yet again of course.
