  • Obesity - extra weight puts more stress on the joints
  • Sex - women are more likely to develop osteoarthritis 
  • Joint Injuries - increases risk for osteoarthritis 
  • Overuse of the same muscle group - can lead to a breakdown of cartilage
Pathophysiology 
  • Inflammation occurs in the synovial joint which destroys the tissue --> that warrants the breakdown of the cartilage. That will cause bone spurs to happens, induce swelling, and cause loss of movement.
