1) I would show a short movie clip, song
talk about what we saw and how it relates to the reading text.
For example I passed a partani for 6th grade and they had a reading text. "The blind men and the Elephant". Before we read the text I showed them the short story by video . It helped them to deal with the text .
2) Read the headline - what is it about? if there are familiar words
3)If there are pictures - try to guess by them.
While reading -
1) Read out loud - each paragraph.
2) mark the words that are new, pointing important information.
3) making clarification on the content
4) After each paragraph i would ask 2-3 questions to see if understood
5) Than move to read the next paragraph.

1) Pre-reading: Trying to predict what the story is about by reading the headline and watching the pictures that follow the story.
2) While reading: Identifying the main idea and summarizing each paragraph and the whole text. A good visual way to summarize a text is to use a story map which includes the setting, the characters, the plot and the theme.
3) Post-reading: Asking students to retell the story in their own words and to answer comprehension questions.

I find it that when students need to share or hear personal stories they listen carefully.

Pre-reading – the 4P’s - Previewing is taking a quick look at a reading before trying to understand the whole thing. Predicting is looking at clues from what we read, see, or know to figure out what information we are likely to get from the reading. Prior knowledge is what we know about a subject before we begin a new reading about it. Purpose is figuring out the author's purpose and it will help us understand what we read.

While reading – looking for the key words of the clues in the text to understand the main idea of the text.
Post reading – repeating the content of the text by checking our answers to the questions about the text.

I will create activities for the learners to practice important vocabulary connected with the text they are about to read – elicit the learners knowledge; both vocabulary & previous knowledge about the topic of the text – disappearing words game, matching L2 and L1 words, questions about the story’s title, and similar practice activities. This pre-reading process will help get the learners connected to the text before they ever read it.

While-reading

Guide my learners to look for key words, phrases, and important information in the text, as they are reading it – names and all words starting with a capital letter, connecting words, etc.

If they are having issues with certain words, have them mark them, so later they can practice.

Post reading

Ask the learners questions about the text and practice the process of going back to the text and locating the answer – comprehension practice.

To practice speaking, the learners may also give an oral breakdown of the text they just read.

present the text's title and ask a guiding question about the title, for example, what they think the text is about.

If there is a picture, ask the learners what they see and how it has a connection to the title.

Mark words with capital letters and then check the names in the text.

While reading-

stop every few sentences or after a paragraph and ask them what they read.

Ask them what words they recognized in the paragraph and mark keywords.

We can ask them what they think will happen next according to what they read and understood by now.

Post-reading-

Ask the learners how the text reflects their first thoughts about the title and their presumptions about the text.

Individual work – questions about the text.

Create a chain of events in an open discussion format in English and then explain it in Hebrew.

If the text is a story, we can check their understanding by asking them to come up with a different ending.

If we have pictures in the text we can have the students guess what is the text going to be about.

while reading- after each paragraph we can ask a question that the answer to it is the summary of that paragraph. In this way the students will analyze small chunks of information and not the holl text and it can help them stay focused.

Post reading- If the text is a story, one way to check understanding or even to make the students read the text again is to ask them to write a different ending to the story. We can ask them what the moral of the text is (if there is one), and if they can tell us about something that happens to them that this moral applies to.
