In order to move past transactional leadership, I believe relationships have to be built. As Cooper (2010) points out, transformative leadership requires collaboration, inclusion of all students and a sharing of responsibility. In order to gain true collaboration and inclusion, trust, transparency and authenticity on the part of the leader is essential. I believe in using dialog as a "foundational strategy for building race consciousness as well as a way to raise consciousness across all dimensions of diversity" (Horsford & Clark, 2015, p.70).
