         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>1. Which ‘need’ did society have when it started researching the mRNA vaccines? And when the COVID - 19 pandemic hit?</strong><br>People needed vaccines to avoid catching the virus and to create antibodies against the disease. When covid came in 2020 we needed it more because they do not have the Coronavirus inside and the only bad thing about them was that they could cause side effects.<br><br><strong>2. Was that need ‘met’ at any time during the pandemic? If so, when? (Check your outline from exercise 1) Which role did science and technology play during that time? </strong><br>&nbsp;Yes, it was in 26/12/2020 when the vaccines came to Spain.<br>&nbsp;Thanks to decades of research and innovation, mRNA vaccine technology was ready. With COVID, this technology got its moment and has proven to be extremely safe and effective.<br><br><strong>3. How long has science been researching those types of vaccines? </strong><br>From decades before the COVID-19<br><br><strong>4. How long did scientists need to develop the first vaccine, tested and designed for humans, in order to fight Covid-19? Why and how was that possible?</strong><br>Was tasted in mice in the 1990 and when the first mRNA vaccines for rabies were tasted in humans it was possible thanks the early years of mRNA research were marked by a lot of enthusiasm for the technology that took a great deal of innovation to overcome.<br><br>The biggest challenge was that mRNA would be taken up by the body and quickly degraded before it could “deliver” its message—the RNA transcript—and be read into proteins in the cells. <br>The solution to this problem came from advances in nanotechnology: the development of fatty droplets that wrapped the mRNA like a bubble, which allowed entry into the cells. Once inside the cell, the mRNA message could be translated into proteins, like the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, and the immune system would then be primed to recognize the foreign protein.<br><br><br><strong>5. What makes that type of vaccine so revolutionary? (What makes it different<br>from other kinds of vaccines?). Could that technology also be applied to<br>fight other diseases? If so, which ones? If not, why not?</strong><br>It is revolutionary because it was the first vaccine with a mechanism of action called mRNA. It consists of a powerful technology that at the beginning of 2020 many scientists considered impossible.<br>This technology could also be used in other diseases.<br>Research is still being done, but these vaccines had a different purpose from the beginning: to treat cancer. They have been investigating mRNA vaccines to treat cancer for almost a decade in small clinical studies and some results are promising.<br><br><strong>6. Which other positive and negative effects did that kind of vaccine have in<br>society, science and technology (if any)? <br>Like all vaccines, it has side effects on your body. But what about in society?<br></strong> This vaccine has had many negative effects on society. It has created a lot of controversy among people about whether it should be tested more or if it was already ready and not dangerous, among other things. In science, it has undoubtedly had a positive effect since it has helped in cancer treatment research since it seeks to use the same technology: mRNA.<br><br><strong>7. Conclusion: After your reflection: Is the thesis statement true or false? Why?<br>Justify your answer properly.</strong><br> I reckon that the thesis statement is true, and I'll explain why. For example, if the technology used to do an scientific experiment is better, the results will be more accurate so it'll have a good impact in the society. And to know if the technology is good you have to experiment with it, so science and technology are very related. And without technology people would basically die because everything around us is technology; our bed, our house, our phone, weapons used for hunting, etc.</div>]]></description>
