The students and teacher in a bilingual classroom speak the same language. Teachers begin the school year teaching in only the students' native language, but as the year progresses, the teacher begins to introduce English as well. This is done gradually and eventually the classes are taught in only English. This helps the students transition to an English classroom more naturally while still preserving their native language.

-Most of the time, parents of bilingual students have limited English skills, which could make them intimidated to help with their student's course work. However, teachers should encourage parents to read to their children even in their native language. They can also help by assuring that students complete their homework each night.
-It is important to encourage parents to volunteer and participate at their child's school. Teachers can invite parents to view their students' work or even invite parents to speak about their native country.
-Determine what school events parents and families are more likely to attend. People with different cultures have different views when it comes to school events, find a neutral ground that appeals to a majority of the parents, and work on an event that they can attend.
