         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>The opening of the concerto starts with a canon (a literal repetition of the opening motif based around a D minor arpeggiated triad between the first two solo violins at the distance of a crotchet). Vivaldi uses a comparable technique in the form of imitation in the first movement of his Gloria where the violins octave motif is imitated by other groups with a more conjunct melodic pattern e.g. lower strings, woodwind, trumpets.</em></strong></div>]]></description>

         <title>In the first movement, the first 5 bars outline triadic D minor broken chords. The tonic D pedal note supports the melody which is based on a falling 5th pattern switching roles between violin I and violin II. Throughout the 1st movement the key only modulates briefly to closely related  keys such as Am and Gm. The circle of 5ths outlined by the &#39;7&#39;s in the figured bass is a typical Baroque feature and lastly there&#39;s an echapee in bar 16</title>

         <title>Vivaldi uses perpetual quaver and semiquaver movement throughout. The ornamentation and use of simple metres along with the perpetual motion are all typical features of Baroque music as well as Vivaldi&#39;s music. Ties over the bar line can be a rhythmic feature for syncopations but is mainly used as a harmonic feature for suspensions. Syncopations aren&#39;t conventional of Baroque but do feature in this piece in the second movement. The disctinctive siciliano rhythm is characterised by dotted rhythms also typical of Baroque</title>
