According to a document done in class one of the greatest accomplishments of the American revolution was made possible by the French, and the French leader Lafayette.  Lafayette had a plan for the French to attack the British at Yorktown.  "The French navy defeats British, and blockade the Chesapeake Bay.  Cornwallis now trapped, without naval support could not escape or be resupplied or reinforced.  Outnumbered two to one, he was surrounded by the American  and French army.  The American and French siege Yorktown, shell British for three weeks with heavy cannon fire.  British General Cornwallis surrenders to American General Washington."
