I think peer-to-peer coaching and integrating learning to work practices, e.g., teachable moments, buddy system, 1:1 coaching will still be in demand. A robust LMS that can support a wide variety of audiences with unique needs and requirements. Classroom training will be required less and learning communities will arise using collaboration tools to share knowledge and best practices. The role of educators will evolve to facilitating learning communities and curating knowledge materials via a knowledge management system.
Sharon Ambata-Villanueva

With changes in the government, policy and regulations can change quickly, so staff must adapt and be informed of how these changes impact them. In my organization, the growth of e-Learning, live streaming workshops so staff can help reduce travel costs and time out of the office, and having access to listen to webinar recordings will be major game changers.
- Eunice Leung

The biggest technology coming into play at this time globally with respect to air traffic control is Automatic Dependent System - Broadcast (ADS-B). This technology is used by both pilots and air traffic controllers. ADS-B allow air traffic controllers to see where air planes are located by accessing their GPS information from the plane itself. This is accomplished by the plane getting GPS information from specified ADS-B satellite system (currently being employed globally) and then relaying that information to ground based facilities. Air traffic controllers with ADS-B capability can track aircraft without using primary or secondary type radar systems which have been predominant over the last several decades. Moreover, other aircraft with ADS-B capability can also view aircraft near them on their panels within the cockpit itself, greatly increasing their situational awareness around them.

Learning models within ATC are evolving currently, mostly due to the fact the technology being utilized is changing at a rapid pace. Air traffic control instructors are starting to learn that mentorship and guidance is required to help trainees through the stressful training environment. We now have learning requirements of how to deal with stress, prior to starting any air traffic simulators. It has caused a dramatic increase of pass rates for new air traffic control trainees. New technologies, such as the advancement of Virtual Reality (VR) Simulators has provided new opportunities of learning, which in turn require instructors to develop new learning models to adapt to the new technologies available.

I see that the next 'big' technology coming over the next two years is the normalization of the online companion class to the face-to-face class. I see that we will continue to develop and expand the online part beyond the current use to one that is more co-created with students. I see that we will become better users of the existing technology as we start incorporating new pieces, such as virtual reality, use of robotics and AI for training purposes, and quality open source materials.

I think big advancement in technology in the next 2 years will be from virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Our school has already invested heavily in new VR equipment in order to explore providing digital experiential learning.
Working in an Art & Design school 3D printing has also been a new technology that is being used more to help design and engineering students.
As an Academic Advisor I think further leaps will be taken in data tracking and using that data to better the student experience in post secondary education. Most advising conferences I have been to in the last 2 years have talked about using more integrated CRM's. Tracking students from service to service overlaying that tracking with their academic performance and using this as one source of extrapolating retention strategies.

The increases in technology will enhance teaching and experiential leaning.
Using data and student feedback may also help to add timely services to improve the teaching and learning experience of students.
eLearning will become more prevalent in secondary and post secondary education as more school boards and educational institutions adopt online courses.

In my opinion I think we will see a move towards more distance style education. Encouraging learning to be done in the time outside of employment. There will be an ever increasing need to be gainfully employed as soon as possible. Increasing costs will force learners to choose between pursuing higher education and starting their pursuit of a life. As such, course delivery models will have to reflect that and a means of both delivering and assessing learning will have to be done remotely. I think virtual team learning and working in a virtual team will have to become a skill taught in the public school system. This will prepare learners to work virtually while pursuing higher education and quite possibly even pursuing a financially supportive carrier. VTL skills will be taught alongside reading, writing, and arithmetic.

I imagine the next bid 'thing' to sweep health-care education will be Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. Virtual classrooms, with real-time integration could solve the problem of having limited means to provide authentic, hands-on assessments in a laboratory setting. There never seems to be enough space to accommodate our growing student population.
Augmented, or virtual reality could provide a means for otherwise prohibited learners to gain the valuable, immersive experience of a practicum placement, or work-experience in an actual, functioning health-care setting.
I see AR/VR as a way to bridge the uncertainty the lingers between traditional post-secondary education and real-life work experience after program completion.

I believe, in the next two years, the next move in learning and education models for ESL/EFL instruction will be a greater focus on how each model approaches and incorporates technology and computer-assisted language learning (CALL). As technology becomes more mobile-friendly and opportunities for learning language diversify and expand, teachers and students will require a shift in learning and education models to meet students’ individual, though diverse, language learning needs.
- Sherry Ruth

In my opinion, academic libraries will gear towards more collaborative online spaces as well as accommodation and support of students' digital humanities skills, 3D printing, among other things. With regards to virtual space, I think a simplification of the search process, virtual support, possibly crowd-sourcing.
Marta Samokishyn

I foresee that academic libraries will get a deeper integration into the virtual learning environments (either by providing more online support in the courses, or through the library credit courses). Another trend that might benefit academic libraries is better visibility online (either through the chat, texts, or video conferencing support).
Marta Samokishyn

The next "BIG" technology

In my opinion, I think the next big technology will be VR/AR. We are beginning to using AR in every day life, look at Pokemon Go or Snapchat for example, most people know what it is and how to use it. Already introducing people to this type of technology will allow for an easier transition to bringing the software into the classroom. I also feel that VR will allow more opportunity to students and give a more well rounded experience to the classroom environment. For example; a student who cannot afford a practicum, can now log into a virtual world and see the work place setting or interact with an avatar. I sincerely believe our next move is to bring more advanced technology into all levels of schooling, like VR/AR. We already can access VR by using tools such as Occulus/PS4 VR at home, so why not start bringing this into a classroom before it becomes dated. I think schools are beginning to think ahead of the curve, opposed to just playing catch up.

I agree with Marta and I see the virtual library growing exponentially to keep up with the current technological climate. I see schools building more VR labs for both therapeutic devices (medication before exams, calming guided tours) to using the technology for education and learning. I also see development of more programs which can be tailored to the individual students learning. This will ensure the success of each student. Advancement in technology continues to evolve and in 2 years time, we will have no research and new technology that hopefully we will start integrating in the classroom.

There has been so much focus on cloud based accounting softwares and ensuring that programs can work cohesively. It seems that there aren't many programs available that cover "everything". So there is a need for multiple tools/functions. I believe the next "big" movement will be within the relationship of taxes. Accounting bookkeeping systems linking to tax systems, allowing for a data transfer to occur, versus a data input being necessary.

I don't think they can "move" much more within the learning and education environment for CPA's and CFP's. Due to the program providing a professional designation, it has to stay rather structured and stringent. The only changes I can see happening are within the learning and educational software systems themselves. Possibly allowing for video creation by students or incorporating some type of documentation of students work habits. For Professional Development, I can see there being more of a change here. Providing more online capabilities for individuals to participate online, not requiring in person participation to complete the required PD hours.

In my L&D world, which is in the workplace, I believe L&D models are evolving toward more and more collaboration online, when it comes to planning and team work. And for design and delivery, I predict more use of less formal styles of sharing - like workplace wikis, chat rooms, or simply sharing videos, to share knowledge. Gamification of online learning will be expected more and more. People want to have fun in their workplaces, while they learn.

I'm not sure what the next big technology will be in the next two years, so I did some Googling for this question, and share what I've learned. We can expect to see more in artificial and machine learning (count, cross-reference, see and hear), improved voice technology (hear and translate better), and block chain, says the internet. I can see how AI technology could impact me, bringing about new processes and technology needing to be taught in the workplace. Improved voice technology should have a positive impact on sharing knowledge and improving accessibility for those that are visually impaired, or just want to thought flow without the cumbersomeness of typing. I don't know much about block chain, so I'd better start learning about that one!

Digital digital digital. Radio is seeing a massive and landscape-changing shift from terrestrial radio (over the airwaves) to digital delivery. Competition will no longer be limited to local offerings, but will include the world of podcasts and streaming from virtually anywhere the listener desires. Podcast listening will continue to rise. Traditional radio listeners will continue to decrease in number. But that's okay, because the flipside is that you as a creator and storyteller now have access to a world market.

As far as learning, online and digital offerings will continue. As budgets continue to shrink, online distance courses and training will make much more financial sense, and with creativity and innovation, could actually offer a more rewarding and stimulating environment than the traditional classroom model.

Jeff Goodes
