The Persona : Luisa is living in the center of a 2,161 million habitants city, Paris. Where she lives there isn’t a garden. So she started putting plants and vegetables where ever was possible in the private road. Her neighbors appreciated the beauty of this oasis and they started to do the same. The pandemic gave them opportunity to meet outside and work together, enjoying the green space and the social activity. They also understood that they can use the space for growing fruits, edible plants, vegetables, to have easier access to local food. They also put a composting bin for feeding the plants. They would put beehives to preserve bio-diversity.

In the middle of their residence there’s a building which belongs to the municipality with a big empty roof. Luisa discovered that the municipality promised 20 years ago to install a garden on the roof, but never kept its promise... 

 

Transformation: Thanks to gardening, the neighbors started knowing each other; discovered common interests and concerns about the environment; the importance of having access to zero kilometer edible plants and local food; they discovered gardening as a social activity. 

 

Ambition: making people and public institutions understanding the importance of increase green spaces for  urban agriculture for producing alternative, healthy local food; create/restore social connections among different social groups by building local communities.

 

Her concern: convincing the municipality to let them building the roof garden to produce local food for the neighborhood, preserving biodiversity, reducing CO2 and reduce social isolation

The Persona: A Biochemist who is so much interested in Nutrition and Health. She now wants to focus on sustainable agriculture, food waste, food production and technology that meet the nutritional need of a growing community.

Transformation:  She’s involved in projects that promote the consumption of fortified foods, foods with their nutritional quality improved commercially or conventional selective breeding.

Food loses its quality from production, processing, transportation and preparation. Food waste is also notable during these activities. I believe these qualities can be preserved and food waste can be minimize or eliminated completely. 

She also wants to encourage farming of biofortified foods and its consumption, proper cooking and mixing of different classes of foods so that everyone eats healthy. 

Her Concerns: Farmers have limited knowledge of sustainable agriculture; Industries are more interested in profit than the production of qualitative foods. Food waste is overlooked and food preparation is only aimed at filling the belly not a good combination of nutrients the body needs.
