They met resistance from the Aztecs and their empire
The Conquistadores unleashed a devastating attack on them: Smallpox
It wiped out much of the Native population and allowed them to triumph
They believed smallpox was gods work

This dumb dumb wanted to make a trade route to Asia through the ocean going west from Europe to arrive at Asia. grossly under predicted the size of the Earth and ran into the New World. Because Portugal wouldn't fund any of his voyages, he got funding from Spain (an expanding nation at the time)

England: mostly in Northern America Virginia area, and focus on settlement (alot of religious groups)

French: mostly in Northern America Quebec area, focus on settlement among natives (alot of murging)
