American Indian Removal

In the mid 1800, president Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal act. This treaty send Native americans 800 miles westward known as the trail of tears. This was a tragic event. They took there land as federal territory just west of Mississippi river. According to ¨ https://www.history.com/topics/native-american-history/trail-of-tears¨ At the beginning of the 1830s, nearly 125,000 Native Americans lived on millions of acres of land in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina and Florida–land their ancestors had occupied and cultivated for generations. By the end of the decade, very few natives remained anywhere in the southeastern United States. ¨ This information explains to us that 100 or thousands of Native americans had to move just so the president could have the land which was where there white ancesters settled. This is a major reason why we now have Indigenouse peoples month now. #trailoftears #andrewjackson #
