”Heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States, but men are more at risk at an earlier age. On average, women develop heart disease about a decade later due to the protective effects of the female hormone estrogen. Heart attack symptoms are often less vague and specific in women, often including shortness of breath, nausea, jaw, neck or back pain, and fatigue rather than classic chest pain. The traditional risk factors for heart disease are generally the same for both genders: family history, smoking, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and diabetes or metabolic syndrome. “Ironically, however, women have a higher mortality from heart disease than men due to both underdiagnosis and undertreatment,” Poulina Uddin, MD, a cardiologist at the Scripps Women’s Heart Center in San Diego. ” Readers Digest

What are painful periods?Menstruation, or period, is normal vaginal bleeding that happens as part of a woman's monthly cycle. Many women have painful periods, also called dysmenorrhea. The pain is most often menstrual cramps, which are a throbbing, cramping pain in your lower abdomen. You may also have other symptoms, such as lower back pain, nausea, diarrhea, and headaches. Period pain is not the same as premenstrual syndrome (PMS). PMS causes many different symptoms, including weight gain, bloating, irritability, and fatigue. PMS often starts one to two weeks before your period starts
