Question 1: State which major part of the brain has been damaged and name the TWO major functional areas of that part of the brain that have been affected.
 
The major part of the brain that is damaged is the cerebrum. 
The primary motor cortex is the first functional area which has been affected. This is located in the frontal lobe of the brain. Its function is to generate impulses which assist with the ability to move. Maria in this case, has lost ability  to move her fingers. The second functional area that has been affected is Wernicke’s  area, which has resulted in Marias inability to communicate in a coherent manner.

1) Resting cartilage, cells resembles small, scattered chondrocytes. 
2) Proliferating cartilage includes chondrocytes bigger than those in the resting cartilage zone.   The cells are like clusters and undergo mitotic division to form cell columns. 
3) Hypertrophic cartilage, cells are rounded. 
4)  Calcified cartilage. Chondrocyte cells in this zone are generally dead. (50 words)

Describe the process of growth in length of a long bone.

The growth of a long bone occurs in the epiphyseal plate, which is located near the epiphysis. The process entails new cartilage being formed which then pushes out the older cells towards the diaphysis.  These cartilage cells are eventually replaced by bone cells and results in lengthening of the bone.
