gender transformative humanitarian policymaking and programming requires within organization cultural changes. The humanitarian sector has worked to connect with diverse, local actors, but does not embody that same diversity of experiences and identities at all organizational levels. Gender work should not be siloed, but needs to be implemented with those in leadership positions. May need to address and change particular hiring practices.

To me it seems like this is a culture found in the humanitarian aid sector, so it follows that people would take this culture into the field.

There are significant cultural barriers that exist, and it is critical to approach this from a place of open understanding in mind especially when attempting to provide assistance. Because the majority of these humanitarian spaces are led by Eurocentrics ideals, there are significant prejudices that exists. And, in order to effect change, there must be a level of genuine understanding, which can only be achieved by open communication.
