1. The three most pivotal concepts learned from reading this article is that the Siege of

Petersburg lasted for 7 months due to Union delay, going into Petersburg Grant seemed

to be running from Lee and his failure at Cold Harbor, and that Grant sincerely regretted

and felt responsible for the immense loss of life which would have a hand in affecting his presidency.

2. The Siege of Petersburg held significance in extending the war because it lasted for 7 months. Something that

is presumed to have ended on the first day was delayed because the Union decided to wait until nightfall which allowed

the Confederates time to prepare.

- Mathmatically the confederates won the battle becaus ethe high amount of casualty rates, but stragetically the Union won the seige of petersburg.

The seige of petersburg is significance to ending the war because the Union won the battle strategically and after this battle , they went to appamatics courthouse and this is when the civil war ends with a union victory.
