The main goal of education is to help students learn how to learn. Learning is a constructive process

Individuals vary in their understanding

Knowledge is developed by connecting with information through the use of manipulatives. "To know an object is to act on it" (Piaget, 1964, p.8).

Communicating with others can help students use, test, and change their thinking ability

Students adjust to their environment by organizing thoughts into schemes, which are basic building blocks of thinking.

Students adapt by Assimilation, which helps them fit something new into something they already know (associative)

Students also Accomodate by adjusting their existing schemes to fit new information.

Equilibration- balancing act of organizing, assimilating, and accommodating processes of thinking.

Disequilibrium- when new information feels uncomfortable in an existing scheme.
