He grew jealous easily like his sister. One day he heard that a satyr name Marsyas was getting a lot of praise for his music. Apollo than flew down from Olympus to challenge Marsyas to a competition. The prize was the loser doing whatever the winner wanted them to. The judges for the competition were the 9 Muses. Apollo chose the Lyre to play and Marsyas chose the flute. The Muses couldn't determine who was the better musician. Since the musicianship was even at this time, Apollo created a new rule of you must play with your instrument upside down and sing while playing. Apollo went first and played a hymn and started humming a song to praise the gods. It is impossible to play with an upside down flute as well as trying to sing while playing. Therefore, Marsyas was declared the loser. Apollo took his size and enjoyed stripping the skin off of Marsyas while he was still alive.
