All Koreans speak the Korean language, which is often classified as one of the Altaic languages, has affinities to Japanese, and contains many Chinese loanwords. The Korean script, known in South Korea as Hangul (Han’gŭl) and in North Korea as Chosŏn muntcha, is composed of phonetic symbols for the 10 vowels and 14 consonants. Korean often is written as a combination of Chinese ideograms and Hangul in South Korea, although the trend is toward using less Chinese. A large number of English words and phrases have crept into the language—either intact or modified by local usage—as a result of the American presence in the country since 1950.

The Korean recipe book is so varied, healthy and rich in flavors that it has crossed its own borders, some of the most popular are:

Bibimbap: It is a base of rice and vegetables to which meat tartar is added, either pork or beef, as well as a Korean chili paste (called gochujang), sesame oil and soybean. To complete the presentation, it is very typical to serve a fried or raw egg on top of the rest of the food. And, of course, mix it all together!

Kimchi: Well, is fermented cabbage seasoned with different spices, some of them spicy.

Galbitang: This is the most traditional soup and one of the most typical dishes. With an intense flavor and well marked nuances, the broth is prepared with beef ribs, white radish, spring onion and a fried egg in strips. It also includes noodles.

Bulgogi: It is something very simple, but incredibly tasty: strips of beef marinated in soy, ginger, garlic, sugar and black pepper, and cooked on the grill over high heat, accompanied by rice and vegetables.

Tteokbokki:They are cakes made from rice flour and cooked in spicy gochujang sauce and sugar.

Korean hotpot: It refers to a pot with water and some seasonings that is put to boil on a stove in the center of the table, while the diners add, little by little, all kinds of vegetables to cook in their own broth.

Naengmyeon: It is usually cooked with vinegar, radish, cucumber, Korean pear, hard-boiled egg and some pieces of meat cut very thinly. It is normal -for a change- that it stings a little, and normally each diner adds more vinegar as the body asks for it.
