I didn't handle this news well, and as my dad's best friend, I felt a lot of the weight to support him emotionally on my shoulders. It was hard for me to be a teenager the first couple of months with his diagnosis because I was always taking care of him, frightened to leave the house in case he needed me. A close family friend had succumb to her own depressive feelings and attempted suicide. By God's grace, she woke up and I got to see her a few weeks later. This time of my life was one of the most difficult so far, and covid was just right around the corner.
