         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Archduke Franz Ferdnad’s, heir to the throne of Austria- Hungary, was assassinated. This event was the triggering event of World War I. Ferdnad was visiting Bosnia with his wife when he was killed by the Black Hand Gang, a terrorist group. The government of Austria-Hungary wanted military revenge for his death. They worried that a conflict between them and Serbia could involve Russia but the decided to take the risk because they felt that they had the support of Germany.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

The U.S. declared their neutrality and Great Britain gives Austria-Hungary the ultimatum to stand down from hostilities, but they do not.
