I agree with Ms. Lewis - it depends on the purpose of the discussion. Like a think-pair-share might be a quick 2 minute discussion as a hook but it might go longer if it's for preparing for a writing piece, for example. - Kim

I think having talking points, sentences started, and assigning points (like a game) can assist with hesitation. Also, having the least talkative students in the outer circle of the socratic seminar and assigning a grade to the additions they make in background. - Kim

I think there is still learning value to listening to discussion as long as they're actually paying attention and thinking about it. We just won't know as teachers since we can't see their thinking.
