I chose this class because I want to understand the roots of communication (which I keep telling everyone I’m studying about) and better explain the media effects and phenomena I see around me.

I love taking a walk in the park enjoying the surrounding nature and watching all living creatures there, co-existing together. I also like listening to other people's stories, learning about what makes them, them. So, that's why communication becomes pivotal for me to understand myself and other people's perspectives better.

I was a Communication Science student about a decade ago, but I almost forgot the theories that I have learned in my college life. I believe taking this Communication Theories course will be like "refreshment" and "brain updates" to me. I look forward to attending TJ's class every Wednesday!

The reason I choose this course is that I want to build a solid foundation in communication studies and explore communication from different perspectives.

I’m in the IMICS program, so that’s why I’m taking this course. I chose IMICS because I’ve had several internships in areas like social media marketing, policy research, and international affairs. Working in these different settings made me realize how much communication shapes the way people interpret messages, form opinions and make decisions. That curiosity led me to study communications more deeply at grad school.

I am taking this course because it is mandatory for the IMICS degree; but, I am excited for this course because I will be learning about communication theories for the first time! My academic background is in the humanities: I have a bachelor of arts degree in Mandarin Chinese, with a minor in Japanese and Globalization studies. I also have six years of work experience working in international business, research, digital strategy, and operations.

I've never studied comm theories or the social sciences before, so I am excited to learn these new theoretical foundations to jumpstart my communication studies and IMICS career!
