Teachers genuinely cared about their students' understanding of the curriculum, not just their abilities to pass an exam. For example, our classes and tests for the course tended to be more in more difficult than the typical AP curriculum because the teachers wanted to go beyond the surface-level requirements of the program.

The advanced classes (i.e. AP classes) really prepared me for college-level courses. The environment was very competitive and academically rigorous so students were expected to perform well. Most students took 5+ AP tests, we had a 100% graduation rate, and 90% of graduating seniors were accepted into college. Because of this type of college-prep environment, I came in with a lot of AP credits (mainly in STEM subjects) which gave me an advantage when choosing a major.
