Pros-
1.)"The government cannot fairly review the performance of its own prisons and guards" the private prisons would be the opposite and who ever is funding the prison would be able to pay attention and take note of what goes on
2.) "Private prisons with performance-based contracts can be used to drive reforms" this could help the prisoners return to society better and more educated/behaved.

Cons-
1.)"studies of private prison companies have found disturbing cases of abuse, and cost-cutting at the expense of safety and security" They are more concerned about money than they are the safety of the prisoners.
2.) "these corporations are taking advantage of crime policies from the 1980's that target poor communities and people of color." the principles behind this method are outdated and unjust.

Pros
- By using private prisons, the government can design exactly what it will be like regarding the services that are provided for the prisoners in the prison. Since its private, the givernment has full control over it and how it keeps its prisoners.
- Private prisons have preformance-based contracts, which means that all of the elements are designed around how the governemnt wants the prison to be ran. These private prisons can help people change and go through rehabilitation to re-enter society, which will further prevent more people from entering prison.

Cons
- Private prisons has resulted in some instances where there was abuse, not proper safety and security for the inmates. The profit that a private prison should not be the sole motivator for the prisons.
- Since there was a growth over the 4 years, in order to keep their buisness up, they are overcriminalizing poor communities and people of color, also lenghtening sentancing and abolishing parole in order to keep their private prisons in tact.

"governments can write detailed, performance-based contracts that spell out exactly what services are to be provided;" if prisons are private, the government may keep the prisons in check through incentives and threat of financial penalty
2.) private prisons are better equipped to successfully make modern improvements to prison system through performance-based contracts

Cons:
1.) profit as a key motivator for prison systematics seems unfitting and "doesn't sit right"
2.) the recent growth of private prisons is "a result of corporations capitalizing on crime policies that over-criminalized poor communities" (this is a questionable basis for the promotion and rise of private prisons)
