"Sometimes, I think everyone is like the people in that painting, Everyone lost in their own private universes of pain or sorrow or guilt everyone remote and unknowable. The painting reminds me of you. It breaks my heart." (185)

Throughout Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, we see Ari struggle with his emotions; before meeting Dante, he was closed-off and expressed nothing, solely wanting control over his own life. He meets Dante, a very open person, and marvels at the ease in which Dante expresses his emotions. Throughout the course of their journey together, Ari begins to realize just how much emotion he has repressed, and his relationship with Dante leads him to be more open with his feelings. While he has not fully recovered from years of emotional repression, with Dante he begins to heal.

- Ryan and Onyx
