         <title>Pt. 1 - Laying the Foundation</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Before the  Crusades, Palestine was a scene of strife and battle between nations.</li><li>A rebellion broke out in the second century BCE when Maccabees rebelled against Greek leaders.</li><li>It resulted in a century of independence for the Hebrews which was ruled under the Hasmonean Dynasty.</li><li>The Maccabees gave into Hellenism but many Hebrews protested against Hellenistic rulers.</li><li>General Pompey from rule took this as a perfect chance to conquer Palestine from Rome. in 63 BCE.</li><li> Though this set the stage for the Roman Empire, there were still many revolts and protests.</li><li>The Zealots caused a great rebellion against the Romans that broke out in 66 CE but led to the destruction of Jerusalem four years later.</li><li>The Pharisees were teachers of law in the first century Judahites but were blind to see the prophecies that pointed towards the Messiah.</li><li>Sadducee rejected oral tradition and “adhered strictly to their interpretation of the Torah.”</li><li>The Gentiles in the Roman Empire became drawn to the synagogue and emmiseries were there to introduce them to the Messiah.</li><li>By fourth century CE, the Romans adopted Christianity as its religion.</li><li>After Stephen's stoning, many believers of Jerusalem who believed in Messianic faith were scattered.</li><li>By the end of the first century, Hebrew assemblies became Christian churches that were dominated by Gentiles </li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Pt. 2 - Persecution and Martyrdom</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>In 70 CE Vespian's son, Titus, was left in charge of the ongoing war with the Judahites. Titus decided to siege Jerusalem.</li><li>In August 28, Romans broke through to the inner temple where they met six thousand Judahites who were ready to die.</li><li>catechumenate was the practice of someone receiving instruction in preparation  for baptism or communion.</li><li>The Romans were tolerant of Christians until Nero came along, and so did martyr and persecution.</li><li>Christians who refused to worship the Roman empire were often persecuted.</li><li>Epistle of Diogenetus argues where the origins of Christianity comes from and how it's better than Judahite culture.</li><li>Emperor Nero was seen as a good ruler at first until he succumbed  his lust for pleasure which caused him to fill the courts with people in his favor.</li><li>On June 18, 64 CE a huge fire was caused in Rome while Nero stated he was in his palace until he heard of the fire and helped fight against it.</li><li>Many people thought that Nero caused the fire so that he could rebuild sections of Rome in his honor.</li><li>To destroy the rumor about the fire, Nero blamed the Christians and so many were arrested and killed.</li><li>Before killing the Christians, Nero would use them as entertainment for people by dressing them in fur, crucifying them, or setting them on fire.</li><li>In 68 CE, Nero's leadership came to an end by a rebellion and after his murder, Christian persecution had stopped for a time.</li><li>Pliny was a ruler who honored and supported Roman laws and traditions. When the uprising of Christianity came to Bithynia, many suspected Christians were brought before him and he accused them all of being Christian.</li><li>Accused Christians were told to offer a prayer to the deities, burn a pinch of incense, and curse the Messiah. Those who did this had all of their charges dropped, and those who didn't were killed.</li><li>Polycarp was a bishop from the assembly in Smyrna before he was martyred.</li><li>There wasn't a broad scale of Christians that were persecuted during the first two centuries unlike the third centuries and beyond, but all representation of early persecutions were dramatized in print and film.</li></ul>]]></description>
