"DECLINE IN FAMILY!" NEW RIGHT
According to Moore et Al (2005), the New Right claim there is a decline in family and believe there was once a golden age of family. These theorists are firm believers of the old traditional ways or norms and values who are often politicians who think conservatively. The presumption of when the family was at its golden age is considered to be when husbands and wives were devoted to one another thought thick and thin and when they raised their children in a way that respects both the parents and society's customs.
The 1960s and early 1970s is viewed by the New Right as the time traditional values started diminishing and they put quite a lot of blame on the government as they are the ones who place policies such as legalising abortion (1960s) and allowing contraceptive pills to be available through prescriptions and the NHS and that because of the sexual freedom this allows for women they are less concerned about the family. They also claim women are distracted from their 'natural' careers as mothers due to things like equal opportunities and the equal pay legislation.
Reference~ Moore.S, Aiken.D and Chapman.S, 2005. Capitalism seems to slowing down the way in which communism is succeeding.

The theory of Marxism has been developed by many, but there is thought to be many problems with the theory. It fails to explain the social interaction between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. It also fails to see problems in other marginalised groups such as the ethnic minority, women and the elderly. It doesn’t recognise the conflicts these groups have and puts its focus purely on the class conflicts. Also it doesn’t address the conflicts in these other groups in our society.

Society is a complex system, Functionalism is a theory that says in order for society to be strong and stable it must use its parts to work together. In order to understand society we should investigate the relationship between ‘parts of society’ both to each other and to society as a whole. We can analyse different parts of society for example religious beliefs and customs by showing how they relate to other institutions within it. We can study the function of social practice to analyse the contribution it makes to the continuation of society. Functionalists such as Comte and Durkheim use an example of a human heart to compare the operation of society, parts of society work together like parts of the body to benefit society as a whole. According to Giddens (2009)
Giddens, A, 2009. Sociology 6th Edition, Cambridge, Polity Press.

The Black Report took place in 1980 and it deicided this population into 5 different social classes. From this they examined the differences in health, the results showed that after 30 years of receiving free NHS there is a clear gap between the health of the working class and the middle class. The report also showed that Britain had a bigger gap than most European countries, where from this the government tried to hide the report and only made a few copies hoping that not many people would notice it. The Acheson Report was conducted 18 years later in 1998 and this report also showed a difference in health; which was also supported by other small studies. The Black Report suggested that there are reasons for the differences in health regarding social class, these reasons are used in today’s reports on health and social class this is according to Newbold et al (Newbold et al, 2008, AQA Sociolgy, Cheltenham, Nelson Thornes Ltd).

Alima ~ as the Marxist idea was developed by different theorists it was most likely that their approach to certain situations would have some problems for example it doesn’t provide an in depth account of how we interact with one another socially some sociologists believe that society can’t be decreased to the conflict constantly happening in society (bourgeoisie (rich) Vs proletariat (poor) ). Another problem is that it believes that there is a system of power beginning from the top of society making its way down , Marxists don’t recognise how power may be in the hands of different groups in society as they pay more attention to the social class of individuals in society as they clearly recognise the conflict going on but the however abandon the in society.( Cameron J , Flowers T , Hart M , Peace M , Renton N , Watts D, Wright M , AQA Sociology , Nelson Thornes , Cheltenham, 2008 )

The interactionist perspective has been spoken about by a number of sociologists, Hebert Blumer (1969) believed that interactionism is based on 3 central views.

Firstly, he argued that social forces do not influence human behaviour. Rather, human behaviour is based on subjective perceptions, people have choices of what to do because of being self-conscious. Secondly, he saw meanings as flexible because people are in constant discussion with one another. Lastly, he believed that society is based on human actions. This is opposed to society building upon individual behaviour. (Haralambos, 2017)

The Family has adverse understanding of feminism. There is a concensus agreement that men and women has biological differences. Nevertheless the family believes that most of the differences are created by society, however the family play a role in creating this difference through the upbringing. This is as a result of how they were brought up and the toys they played with. Girls imitate their mothers on how house chores are done and believes that is part of the formation or a role of a woman. The boy who assist the father is made to believe that, that is a man's role in the family(Wilson,Kidd, 1998)

In today's society, the way in which we perceive masculinity is thrust in our faces by television advertisements, films, and even magazines, whilst looking back in to past society, masculinity was not really spoken about as widely. There has been a massive influx of anorexia and bulimia in men, which previously was widely only really associated with women. This is due to things such male lifestyle magazines, and even the new existence of the male cosmetic industry within our society, which is putting more and more pressure on men in todays society. This is making people question the link between identities, and what we perceive as popular culture (Kidd, Abbott, and Czerniawski, 2004).
Reference:
Kidd, w, Abbott, D, Czerniawski, G, 2004, Sociology A2 for OCR, Oxford, Heinemann.

Men are believed to bottle up their emotions, whilst women are more open with their emotions and men tend to suppress their emotions by taking abusive and harmful substances. In general, men do intensive and dangerous work I comparison to women. All of this leads to men suffering from mental illness.
C Newbold,M Peace,M Wright 2008,Aqa Sociology,Cheltenham, Nelson Thrones Ltd

According to Newbold et al 2008, social identity is the understanding of ourselves and the relations that we have with other people and groups. Social identity can be best understood as self-labelling in which an individual gives their self a label by comparing their self to others. From this we notice that we are similar to certain groups and different to other groups, thethe results of this is the development of our social identity. Everybody will have different types of social identity due to going through different experiences, however some aspects of our social identity have more importance such as social class or gender (Newbold et al, 2008, AQA Sociolgy, Cheltenham, Nelson Thornes Ltd).

Conservative thinkers and politicians are of the view that the family is in decline and they have labelled this new thinking ' New Right '. Their opinion is that there was once a golden age of the family in which husbands and wives love each other and children were trained to respect the law.
The 1960s and 1970s raised the bar in this family values that was on the brink on the doorstep of the state especially legalisation of abortion and the NHS making contraceptive pills easily accessible. Sexual freedom, equal opportunities and equal pay legalisation enjoyed by women has made women loose their identity as 'natural ' careers. The 1969 Divorce Reform Act contributed to the decline of commitment to marriage. This ' New Right ' think tank also raised concern of the basis of decriminalising homosexuality nd lowering of the homosexual consent age. They saw all these new ideas as the hallmark to the decline of traditional family values because they see homosexuality as not part of the social life bloc.
