Dr. Anadale uses many rhetorical strategies to spread his ideas on classroom etiquette and what students should do in a college classroom; he mostly uses logos such as using a YouTube video to express his thoughts and being a teacher himself. This makes the students actually listen to what he is saying fully without being bored or ignoring some parts of his message.

The video of Dr.Anadale shows his suggestion about how to have a good habit during course which could help student get a better grade. The purpose of his video is telling student what should not do during class, and those could also help them in the future. Because of he has a PHD and is a professor of Mount St. Mary’s University, his opinion could represent most professors’ and that is a kind of credibility. Base on his personal experience, he shows to audience how those bad movement could lead to a worst class time which is emotional evidence.

In the "Think B4 You Speak" commercial, Hilary Duff demonstrates how teenagers sexualy discriminates others, because of their sexual orientation. Duff comparates the "that is so gay" phrase with "that is so girl wearing a skirt as a top", in order to generate conscience in the young girl, making her feel discriminated as a homosexual would feel. The commercial was made to create conscience in the population about dumb and discriminatoires situation that could affect other is feelings.

In the video Dr. Anadale is explaining why he does not allow laptops in his class. Besides the fact that he is a doctor and therefore already has credibility, he adds studies which back his point up. He appeals strongly to the logic of his students. As it is not needed, he does not appeal or uses emotions. His tone is slightly supercilious as well as his method of delivery. The video is short and helps to address his point to the audience.

As we see in the video, Dr. Andale discusses why the laptop cannot be used in the classroom and does it actually that typing on the keyboard does not make you understand what is being said? Also, we see in the second hands discussing another issue. Why should we take notes in the handwriting? Does it actually increase the student's ability to concentrate or not? We will discuss these subjects deeply during the analysis of this matter.Dr. Andale's want to show that laptops in the class are distraction machines and taking notes help the student to engage the ideas that been discussed during the lecture.

In the YouTube video entitled “Why I Don't Allow Laptops in Class”, Dr. Christopher Anadale mentioned some reliable resources as reasons to support his stand on the usage of laptops during his class. His position as a teacher created a big difference to his students' acceptance towards his message. In fact, the way how Dr. Anadale tried to convince his students by inserting some research for his message is super-efficient. Nonetheless, the text is lack in emotion appeal which could have make it easier for the students to agree and accept with his stand.

Reexamining ones words before speaking is vital because it prevents a person from being offensive in their communication.

In the video “Why I Don't Allow Laptops in Class”, Dr. Anadale tries to persuade students not to use laptops in class, using firm tone and a logical phrase such as “first, secondly”, in order to make his argument more persuasive and clearer. Although he kept using a single tone when explaining why, he cited some authoritative academic articles to prove that computers can prevent attention and comprehensive at class and caused students to get lower grade. Evidence: 1. His speech has credibility, partly because he is a college professor with teaching experience and an understanding of what students learn. 2. On the other hand, he added convincing images to video, such as images of articles supporting his conclusions and one showing that a laptop would distract students. 3.logic. 4.no emotions.

In the video “Why I Don’t Allow Laptops in Class” and “Why You should take Notes by Hand. As a professor, Christopher Anadale showed us the negative opinion and attitude of his about using modern technology to convenient people or student’s life, such as taking note in laptop. And the confidence in nowaday’s young generation’s hand writing. Although he has selected some source to back him up, but there are even more evidence appear to against his opinion by more authoritative structures. In my point of view, his idea of note taking and teaching skill in a catholic college of a small country side town of Maryland should be discussed.

Think Before You Speak, a television advertisement launched in 2008 and developed to raise awareness of the common use of derogatory vocabulary among youth towards lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community. In it, two girls are in front of the fitting room mirror talking about how one of the girl’s dress looks like. The other responds with, “Ugh, that’s so gay.” At this point, a customer, casts by Hillary Duff walks up and retorts, “Ugh, that is so girl wears shirt as a top,” and proceeds to tell them to stop using "gay" as a description to describe something dumb or stupid. The commercial ends by saying, “When you say ‘That’s so gay,’ do you realize what you say? Knock it off.”
In this clip, the context is about giving people a lesson that stop using the term “that’s so gay” to describe things. And the Author is not only the actress and actors, but also the directors or editors; also, people who filmed the clips will count as an author as well.

Evidence:
Post in the public as a commercial advertisement.
The famous actress, Hilary Duff, has credibility.

Vashti Williams

KEY: Thesis, Point, Evidence, Effectiveness

“When you say something do you really mean what you say?” (Sykes, 2018). When we talk among our peers we may not realize that some of the things we say may cause harm. Instead of grounding ourselves in the reality of the society we live in, we focus on ourselves and forget that words are powerful. The “Think B4 You Speak” ad spreads awareness of how words can make others feel. This ad was created by the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) to inform American youth that using anti-LGBT remarks to call something stupid make others, particularly in the LGBTQ community, feel disrespected or unwanted. In addition, the ad features a famous comedian, Wonda Sykes, who is also a part of the LGBT community. This essay will focus on one of the “Think Before You Speak” television ads, where Wonda Sykes confronted a trio of teenagers who found it funny to call a small statue of a chef “gay” because they all thought it looked stupid. GLSEN effectively communicates that words can hurt using a famous LGBTQ, Wonda Sykes, as a speaker, and visual aids to bridge an understanding with teenagers.

Firstly, featuring a celebrity in an ad campaign is an effective strategy to connect with the audience. This ad campaign starred Wonda Sykes who is not only a famous comedian, but also openly gay. In the commercial, Wonda Sykes is in a humble diner, where she tells the teenagers that saying something is gay is not nice. Here, she doesn’t look like a celebrity, but an ordinary person, like many in the audience. She is a part of LGBTQ, which means this ad has sentimental values that are important to her and not just another gig. Through her life experiences, it is plausible that she has dealt with similar challenges as people in the LGBTQ community. Sykes is familiar with how they feel when they are in an unwanted situation and therefore makes it effortless for her to form trust and credibility with those who are watching the ad. Not only does she build a bridge with LGBTQ audience, but also with people who like her work. They would find it uplifting to see her take on a serious stance for a change and know that she is aware of social issues and not just living in a Hollywood bubble. Even more, they would admire her altruism, and want to help stop this behavior from happening in young persons. Sykes shows the audience how much she believes that this campaign would benefit the community and how she is compassionate for the well-being of others.

- Use her comedic skills to guide the audience’s thoughts on why it is fact offensive to call something gay when you mean to say stupid.

- Mention how the speaker Wonda Sykes enhances the message/purpose of the ad.

Secondly, the ads use of visual aids solidifies the connection between the audience and the message. Wonda cleverly displays this by using the physical appearance of one of the teens to say that a salt shaker was stupid. The camera focused on the boy’s face where the audience can clearly see that hurt, confusion, and feelings of shame. This forms the connection between the ad’s message and the audience, people do feel offended and discriminated when who they are as a person is used as a joke.

- The “KNOCK IT OFF!” at the end of the ad made the message very clear and direct. The black background and the “KNOCK IT OFF!” in all capitals and white sets a serious tone to the matter.

- these images draw out an emotional response from the audience. It has a strong appeal to their emotions especially since their sense of sight and hearing is interacting with what is being said.

- When the audience listen to Wonda Sykes and see them come alive on the screen in front of them, it enhances the message and the audience receive these visuals as evidence to support the message.

- visual techniques have such profound impact on audiences that it may convince them to agree that using gay to refer to something stupid is discriminatory.

- the effects of images provide clarity and consistency which enhances the purpose and the purpose of the “Think B4 You Speak” campaign ad.

In "Why you should take notes by hand?" and "Taking laptop notes lower your GPA" videos by Dr. Anadele, he is against of using laptops in class unless necessary. Some people say that he is too strict and his idea cannot be applied to all people because different people have different ways of studying. However, I agree that his idea is good because he only wants the students to succeed in the class, but students may think differently just to satisfy their own need. He wants the students to use pen and paper in class because using laptops will lower students’ GPA.

Evidence:
1) Credibility
- London Times Higher Education

o Survey 650 undergraduate and postgraduate in 10 countries

o Writing notes led to greater retention of data than typing
-TimesHigherEducation.com

o Laptops users lowered their GPAs by 0.27 to 0.38 points
o The authors concluded using laptops for note taking “significantly worsens academic performance”
2) Logic
- Writing by hand is slower

o More selective about what you write, putting more thoughts

o Increase retention and ability to recall what you write

o Fast typists tempted to copy down everything

- Involves greater tactile sense

o Involves more muscle group and gives greater sense of touch in pulling your hand across the paper

o Increase ability to recall and to absorb information

Then, he explained why laptops are prohibited in his class. Using a research study, Dr. Anadale claimed that laptops are a distraction to students. All in all, Dr. Anadale used correct rhetorical strategies to convince his students of his classroom rule. First, Dr.Anadale, who is a college professor, his identity enforced the credibility of his video. Also, the study that Dr. Anadale used to support his statements also contributes a lot to the credibility of the text. Then, he used severe facial make his audience get involved in his statements.

Evidence:

1.Dr. Anadale is a college professor, which increased the credibility of his words.

2.

Thesis statment:
Dr.Anadale complain about the student who is using laptops as a tool to take a note because it has been proven that laptops make student less focus in class and get worse grade. Also, Dr.Anadale shows that the students who is using pencil and papers will have better understanding of the subject. Therefore, I agree with Dr.Anadale because of his credibility and logic. He used many statistics and experiences that shows us good understanding of the topic that he is talking about.
Evidence:
1- the experiences that he his as a teacher for longtime.
2- he used more than one source that shows statistics prove his argument.
3- he used logic for example, because laptop is multitasking; many students loss their focus in class doing something else. therefore, students who is using laptop as a tool to take notes do not get good grade.
