Born to humble first-generation immigrant parents from Monterrey, Mexico, Daniela De La Cruz possessed a mind that moved with a quiet intensity, always observing, analyzing, and questioning. From the moment she first stepped into a classroom, her intellect was apparent. She earned academic excellence awards effortlessly, yet for her these were only markers along a path she had already begun to carve for herself.

Daniela had always been fascinated by the way things worked. She spent hours taking apart radios, old computers, and mechanical devices, studying their components with the care of a surgeon. Then she would reassemble them, often improving their design in ways she had envisioned while examining them. Her parents and teachers sometimes found this perplexing.

Lessons were meant to be absorbed, they said, not challenged.

But for Daniela, understanding required questioning, and improving required imagination. Her tinkering was not about rebellion; it was about mastery and possibility.

Despite her constant questioning of the world around her, Daniela’s faith remained a steadfast anchor. The teachings of scripture at her church were never doubted. They grounded her in love, morality, and the quiet strength of choosing light even in difficult circumstances. She dedicated herself to her church community, volunteering not only as a participant but as a problem solver. She applied her technical skills to repair outdated systems, improve faulty networks, and modernize near-obsolete technology, quietly making the church a more efficient and functional space for everyone who relied on it.

It was her combination of skill, dedication, and vision that drew the attention of an MIT instructor that was also a member of the parish. This mentor recognized something exceptional in her... A mind capable of ingenuity, but guided by thoughtfulness and a moral compass. Through this connection, Daniela gained access to opportunities she might never have reached otherwise.

Her excellent grades, paired with this mentorship, opened the door to a full-ride scholarship at MIT, a chance she accepted without hesitation.

At MIT, Daniela’s passion for creation and problem-solving led her to a course of study in mechanical engineering and artificial intelligence, with a focus on robotics and advanced systems design. She was inspired by innovators. Dreaming of designing technology that could enhance human capability, make lives safer, and improve the efficiency of everyday systems. Her projects often combined hardware and software, exploring the interface between intelligent machines and human needs. She relished the challenge of pushing technology beyond its current limits while remaining mindful of its ethical applications.

It was during her second year at MIT that Daniela was introduced to a group known simply as Requiem. To outsiders, it appeared to be just another hobby organization.

But beneath that polished facade was a network that extended far beyond the walls of the university. Requiem quietly recruited brilliant minds from across the world, individuals who specialized in testing the boundaries of security systems once thought impenetrable. Their so-called “exercises” targeted institutions like the White House, the NIS, and other high-level government networks, probing weaknesses through data manipulation, infiltration, and digital sleight of hand.

For Daniela, what began as curiosity quickly turned into fascination. Requiem offered the kind of challenge her mind craved...The kind that made her pulse quicken and her thoughts race faster than she could contain them. Here was a place where her skills were not only recognized but celebrated.

Yet it was also here that her morality began to twist, quietly and almost imperceptibly at first.

She never questioned her faith, not openly. Instead, she began to bend it. Her attachment to scripture, once her source of comfort, became a justification. She quoted verses to rationalize her choices, convincing herself that light could be found even in shadows if the purpose was righteous enough. The more she achieved, the more she began to think herself above consequence. Protected by brilliance, guided by divine purpose and armed with knowledge few possessed.

It was also during this time that she noticed something strange. A presence. A figure that seemed to linger at the edges of her vision when she left the lab late at night or crossed the quiet paths of the campus courtyard.

At first, she dismissed it as exhaustion, the byproduct of long nights and caffeine-fueled coding sessions. She told herself it was just her nerves reacting to the weight of exams and Requiem’s secretive operations. But when near encounters grew too specific, she began to wonder. In her quiet prayers, she convinced herself it was a test from God, perhaps a divine reminder that He still watched over her.

That illusion began to crumble when she lost a bet inside Requiem. The wager, at first harmless in tone, carried a punishment that was anything but. Her task was to breach one of the most secure systems in the world. The Pentagon. Failure meant expulsion from Requiem and worse, the loss of its protection, which would undoubtedly put her scholarship and her anonymity at risk.

Daniela hesitated, but not for long. Pride, fear, and the thrill of being untouchable drove her forward. The operation took weeks of careful planning, every keystroke a risk that could unravel her life. When the breach finally succeeded, it lasted only five minutes, but it was enough. The Pentagon’s security grid flickered, and across its database appeared a series of glowing crosses, the symbol of her misguided faith intertwined with rebellion.

The hacker tag left behind read a single word: DIOS.

Unbeknownst to her, that single act...the brief invasion of one of the most guarded systems on earth had drawn the attention of a group far more enigmatic than Requiem.

Somewhere beyond the reach of MIT’s networks and the government’s firewalls, an entity known as the Valhalis Institute began to take interest in her.

By the end of her second year at MIT, Daniela’s shadowed presence on campus finally took form. He revealed himself, a boy her age, someone who had grown up in the same small town, whose persistence and quiet determination had once drawn him close to her. He had watched her rise, admired her brilliance, but Requiem never recognized him. Admiration had curdled into obsession, obsession into envy, and envy into a gnawing, unrelenting jealousy.

Why could the world give her everything and leave him nothing?

Fueled by this question, he began to execute a plan that was as meticulous as it was sinister. Slowly, he erased her presence from the University, sabotaging accounts, deleting records, and severing the threads of her existence in the systems she had touched. Daniela, brilliant and resourceful as she was, had not anticipated this personal attack.

When she awoke in a random motel room, the reality hit her immediately. He sat at the foot of the bed, calm, almost reverent, as if she were an object of worship he could finally contain. The room smelled faintly of stale cigarette smoke and fear, a smell he assumed would keep her compliant.

He had misjudged her.

Daniela’s mind raced faster than he could comprehend. She understood him, knew that beneath the obsession was a fragile sense of superiority, a reliance on the belief that she was powerless without him. She used that. She manipulated his reverence, planting doubt and feeding his ego just enough to make him relax.

Even without formal combat training, every movement was calculated, every strike executed with a cold determination honed from years of dismantling complex systems and predicting outcomes. By the time the struggle ended, she had stabbed a man larger and stronger than herself exactly sixty times.

The aftermath was clinical. Authorities detained her and interrogated her, but it was quickly deemed self-defense. Her parents arrived, faces pale with shock and worry. She performed flawlessly, faking horror and tears, presenting herself as the innocent victim of an unthinkable ordeal.

Beneath the mask, however, she felt nothing but irritation. This incident, this brush with mortality and human weakness, would be recorded as a blemish in what was supposed to be her immaculate record. She would let them believe it mattered. She would let them mourn what she had never lost.

After the motel incident, Valhalis wasted no time in extending an invitation for Daniela to participate in their trials. By this point, she was growing restless with MIT. The familiar rigor of coursework no longer held the same allure. She had already pushed the limits of what the university could challenge her to achieve, and she hungered for something more complex, more mysterious, and more consequential.

The offer of the trials intrigued her. Valhalis promised challenges that would test not only her intellect but her creativity, her cunning, and her ability to operate in a world where the rules were written in a more interesting codex.

She passed, and by 2024 she was recruited formally into the institute.

Para to novella, please don't be pressured to mirror but also please no one liner replies. My replies could get lengthy especially in settings that require me to describe a scene (purple prose) but do let me know if it ever becomes too much! I'd be happy to adjust to a length that suits both of us. I'm not too fond of "going with the flow" in terms of threading.

At least have an idea if you're the one approaching me to plot because I will have ideas if I'm the one approaching you.
