My personal career goal is to eventually join the civilian police as a dog handler however ideally to do this career you need a university degree. University is something I have never been interested in so i decided to look at ways around this to reach my career goal, the police offer a APCD apprenticeship which allows you to join the police force without having a degree but just a level three, therefore I did a level three in public services and a, now doing a level three in animal care to ensure I can join the dog handling unit after 4 years of civilian police as that is how long it takes to specialise.

posible questions and how i would answer

Tell me a little bit about yourself.

My name is nadia evans im 17 and i grew up in a family of four, i've lived with pets all my life and therefore have a huge love for animals, when i was younger i would do/volunteer and perform as many different sports, clubs and activities that i could, i have always been a very outgoing and confident individual with the love of bettering myself in anyway possible. One of my main hobbies i would say would be learning new skills,i have recently started teaching myself arabic. A fact about me would be from a young age I discovered that I wanted to be a dog handler in the police. This links to why I am here with you today. I am here to resume my journey of getting to my dream job.

Tell me why you have a passion for animals.

I would say my personal passion for animals would be linked to growing up with them, from been young i have always had a dog, german shepherd, samoyed and a alaskan malamute. From been the ages of 4 i always went with my dad to take the dogs to dog training classes and by the age af 10 i would help and get involved with the lessons. Watching cop shows from being young as well with the siffer and attack dogs really grew my love further. It was just insane how much the dog can learn and help with a police officer day to day life. However as well as dogs i'd say all animals fantasize me and i grow my love for them everyday.

Tell me what experience you have with animals.

My experience with animals has been with growing up with dogs, bearded dragons and a hamster I’ve looked after and taken care of these animals from being young and I’ve also taken extreme interest in relatives dogs and animals such as chickens, horses and guinea pigs all these animals I have help care and manage for Alongside my family.

What are your weaknesses?

I would say my weaknesses include the fact that I am very independent and don’t like to ask for help this at this hinders me as I tend to put too much stress on myself to get everything completed without the help of others however I do tend to get the task done but without asking for help otherwise I overcomplicate the work for myself.

Another weakness of mine would be the fact that I’m a perfectionist I work very hard to make sure the work is up to a perfect standard and nothing less, this tends to mean I spend more time on a task out of hours to ensure it is perfect but this means I am spending more time than another individual would

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

In five years time I see myself as a police officer. Joining the force through a bit and apprenticeship means it will take three years for me to qualify so in three years time I will be a fully qualified officer after this three years it takes another four years to qualify for the role I want to do a dog handler so in five years time from now I’ll be a fully qualified police officer working towards specialise in as a dog handler I will be very happy in my role I’m proud of myself for the cheapest I’ve accomplished to get there in five years time I will also have my own house with a mortgage I will also be on my second car which will hopefully be off all my fault because by then my insurance would be cheaper this is where I want to be in five years time and I will do and achieve anything I need to to get myself here.

Tell me about an achievement you are proud of.

Tell me about achievement that I am proud off I would say that’s a hard question to answer but only because I attend to congratulate everyone out except for myself but looking back on it I’ve got a few things to be proud off for example GCSEs I got all 7 grades above a pass and even got an level 7 (A) in a subject at the time I didn’t really celebrate this but it is something to be proud I say my next accomplishment would be achieving my level two RYA boat license which allows me to drive a boat of 10 m independently. Another accomplishment would be getting a distinction star in my level three public services despite the fact this is the year when coronavirus started to hit therefore made working from home a lot harder and lastly I would say passing my theory test for a driving this is only achievement as I got 50 out of 50 on the questions.

Tell me about a time when you faced a challenge and how you overcame it.

A time that I faced the challenge and how I overcame it would be when I was working towards my level two boat license. This was a two day course with an exam on the third day. When I completed the course I did it alongside my dad and another man who was about 30 years old meaning I was the youngest being only 16 at the time the man who was assessing us had said That I was the youngest girl to complete this course. My father and the man had driving experience therefore when handling the boat it was easier with the turning of the wheel and manoeuvers for the boat me having no experience in driving or boating I had to work harder and concentrate more putting my mind to it. Doing something I have no experiencing what is the weather along side to newly experienced drivers was a difficult experience but I managed to complete this license and all the manoeuvres nuts and steering of the boat as well as exam on the last day I did this by reading the book that was handed out to us which was a 216 page book about all the different manoeuvers questions tied lengths and heights when the moon affects the tide etc. I put in the time and effort and got my license and therefore I believe the practice and revision makes perfect

How well you have prepared for your job interview. including the quality of each step of the preparation ·

for my intreview preparation i had reharsed and coppyied out questions with my anseres and begin practing theses in front of a mirror and even recording myself so i can see the errors i am making and alliminate them for the real thing, i also allowed my self to practice over a cuple of days before my interview to ensure i could anser each question confidently from memory.

Link your evaluation to the feedback received from your tutor.

during my interview i had a few question i did not prepare for, looking back now theses were simple questions that i can now think of hundereds of good ansers for however at the time when i was asked i struggled to think of any. the question i was asked was describe your self in three words to whcih i said 'confident, outgoing and trustworthy' i fumbled on the last word and it took me a minute to think of it. these are a pore choice of words and this was noted to me in my feedback i should have said something like, dedicated, confident, hardworking or goal drivien ect. however during my interview i did keep calm and didnt fidget which was also stated in my feedback that along side this i kept good eyecontact and laslty i provided good examples to the questions asked although i over explained them and inn some cases repated what i alredy said therfore this is something i should work on.

what i think went well is my eye contact and body language throughout the interview as well as my tone throughout, i used no slang and remained proffeicnal, i used good/revlivent examples linking my expsiences to animals throughout the intierview

what i could improve on would be to ensure i give enough detail on topics and past exspirenced but not to overanalise them and avoid repeating myself. lasly on the last question of the inteview being where do i see myself in 5 years time i stated how i am going to be a police officer, Lucy mentioned in my feedback how this was good as it shows my pan and dedication however when applying for something like a zoo keeping job saying something releviant to working in a zoo would be more plesenlty looked on by employers as it shows you are intretsed in job and what it has to offer, i understand this however this is not a job role i would personally be applying for therfore when i have another job interview for a diffrent role it would link heavily with the police thefore me sayining in 5 years time i will be in the police force would not hinder me in the interview but increase my chances.

i would say the best pracitce for preparing for a interview would be research, espacially into the job role you are applying for in detail, this makes you aprear prepared and shows dedication and commitment and ensure you think of questions to ask after ther interview is done. to ensure you acondamidate any quetions you could be asked and rehearse your answers so you are not stumped when asked an question. laslty if you cannot think of the answer straight away you can repeate the question in order to allow yourself time to think.

think of questions which could be asked in the interview and write down your answers

ask peers/family member or friends to ask you questions which they have been asked in intervies and answer theses questions on the spot beause in interviews not all your questions you have practiced for are going to be asked so you must get into the habbit of thinking on the spot

always think of at least two/three questions to ask the employer at the end of the interview

youtube has many videos on what questions could be asked but also have intreview simulatiors, this been a video of an employeer condcuting an interview and asking questiong giving you time to reply before moving on to the next question. this simulates the envorment of an actual interview

repattion, repating your practiced answers helps you remember what exactly you want to say so when the questions asked you will immidatly have the anser as you have repated it so many times

record yourself, doing this shows you what you need to impove when speaking, do this unitt you are happy with evetything you did in the recordning

logistics and facts! it is important to learn facts about the work place that the intirew is for and add theses into conversation when answering or asking questions in the interview. this shows that you have done your resharch and have gone that extra bit which will distinguish you from other parcipitates. find three facts and write these on flashcards and practice untill you can say theses facts without looking

what was good?

in my preperation you can see i researched the most common interview questions and rehearesed my answers, i did this and recoreded my self so i could see what needed to be improved, i belive this helped me as a few of theses questions were asked in the actual interview and i had a ready and rehearsed answer for theses.

i practiced in frot of a mirror and recoreded myself i belive this was a very helpful step in my preporation for the intewive as it allowed me to see exactly what i was doing wrong for example i was fidgeting alot with my hands and therfore after watching the videos i decided to sit on my hands and try again and in that video i looked alot more confident and profesnial, if i didnt record my self i woudnt habe noticed this.

i made sure i practiced and had 3 questions to ask at the end of the interview an i am glad i pracitced three becouse in the interview envoriment i had forgotten the other two questions i wanted to ask and i only ended up asked one but if i only resharesed one question to ask i would have not rembered any so it is a good job i practiced three

what i could have done for futher interview practice and preapring

i reheased for my inteview only 2 days before i iactually had it, this was not the best practice as if i had started a week before i would have been much more confident

i planned my answers for harder questions therfore i stumbled when asked short questions 'descibe your self in three words' akways perpare for easier and harder questions because on questons like theses your mind will tend to go blank

becouse this was a mock interview i did not resharch any facts about the company as it was not a real company however if this was a real interview i would have resarched some facts such as what year the company started in, key things the company has achived, where the company is based ect

i did not ask other people to ask me question and i should have done this , all my answers i had rehersed therfore when questions were asked and i didnt rehearsed them i did not have a good answer and tended to fumble my words

in conclusion after completeing my interviewe i know know it is impotant that you prepare for the unexspected and to be able to think off the top of your head, life is not something you can reharse and prcacite for you can not determine the future or what will be asked therfore quick thinking is needed not only in interviews but in everyday life
