this article it talks about how Several scientific studies in the past two years have noted that abortion bans will likely increase maternal mortality. A University of Colorado study in 2021, for example, found that a total ban on the procedure could increase pregnancy-related deaths up to 21% overall. The article states “Restricting or outright banning abortion would increase emotional, physical, relational, and financial stress for anyone who can get pregnant,” says Grace Dickman. For those denied an abortion, there could also be lasting negative mental health effects—anxiety, depression, and more due to other factors, like economic hardship, that result from an unwanted pregnancy.

This article gets into the political divide that abortion conversations cause. Ever since 1973 when abortion became legal nationwide, the issue became the defining fault line in U.S politics, but during that time the line wasn't as clear. At the time, republicans and democrats were both equally likely to say that abortion should be legal, but as the years went on the line became a little clearer.

In lower US courts, the clinic has successfully argued that the ban violates Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that enshrined the federal right to an abortion until the point that a fetus can live outside the womb — a ‘viability standard’ typically set at 22 or 24 weeks of pregnancy. But state officials are now taking the case to the highest court, seeking to end the precedent set by Roe so that individual states can set their own rules on the legality of abortion

I think that this article really shows how much the world has changed. Nowadays it's one side or the other. Pro-life or pro-choice. Back then your political party wasn't automatically assumed based off of one opinion you had. Whereas now, if you're pro-life you're assumed to be apart of the Republican Party and if you're pro-choice you're assumed to be apart of the Democratic Party. It has just made the divide between democrats and republicans even worse. It's a constant argument on both sides about any topic where they have different opinions. It's like a war which from the looks of it has no end.
