Our hero has been running a restaurant in this region for 35 years, but he is also a volunteer member of many NGOs. One of them is the disaster and emergency assistance center. In our country 2 years ago, we experienced a major earthquake centered in Kahramanmaraş, which is also called the disaster of the century. Our hero went to the region from the first day and carried out search and rescue activities for days and rescued many people from under the rubble. After the search and rescue activities were over, he took part in humanitarian aid activities and helped to meet the needs of people in the earthquake zone and did this completely voluntarily without any compensation. The fact that he is doing this work voluntarily without expecting anything in return, leaving his family and loved ones and going to save lives in remote and difficult conditions has both deeply affected and inspired us.

Mom doesn't wear a cape, but she should! In my eyes, she's a local hero, and I'll tell you why. Every day, she wakes up early and makes sure we have everything we need. It's not just about food on the table and clean clothes (although she's great at those too!). It's about the way she listens to us when we have problems, the advice she gives us, and the fact that she's always there for us, no matter what we want to do. She may not save the world from monsters or fly through the air, but my mom saves my world every day. She's a role model for me and I'm so proud to have her as my mom. To me, she's the ultimate local hero!

Vissarion (1879-1951) in high esteem for his multifaceted contributions to Romanian culture and society. Born in Costeştii din Vale, Dâmbovița County, Vissarion was a self-taught individual who excelled as a prose writer, poet, folklorist, and inventor. His literary works, such as "Florica şi alte nuvele" and "Ber-Căciulă," showcase his dedication to preserving Romanian folklore and pioneering science fantasy literature. Beyond writing, Vissarion's inventive spirit led him to patent various mechanical devices, reflecting his commitment to scientific advancement. His resilience, creativity, and dedication to cultural preservation serve as an enduring inspiration, embodying the values our school strives to instill in its students

Maria Cebotari (by Gabriela)

Maria Cebotari was a moldavian lyric coloratura soprano in the 20th century and one of the most significant people in Romanian space. She took the whole world by storm with her wonderful voice and wide range of repertoire. She manifested her talent not only in music but also in movies, becoming a talented actress.

Despite being an artist with a bright future paved already, she actively put in effort to fight for Moldova’s wellbeing as a nation and independence in her domain. An example being in her acting roles in movies such as “Odesa in Flames”, portraying the tragedy of a mother losing her children because of the suppressive NKVD forces, working with an italian director to make a good replica of the Bessarabian atmosfere and civilization. Dr. Rosemarie Kilius mentioned Cebotari’s activity against the time’s suppressing regimes similar to a bird in flames. Due to this there were made conscious efforts to erase her from history by oppressive powers, however, people that carry deep care for her, for example, her son, Fritz Curzon, fights to bring back to light her efforts and work. He mentioned in an interview with KLUMEA that his mother’s only wish was to sing, the time of her activity was troublesome and there were many people who attempted to dirty her reputation, however she took the situation and fought diligently for her country in culture and education, inspiring the spirit of nationality in the world’s hearts, while making her traditions and origins known.

Thanks to her efforts, our country’s civilians were inspired to develop and love our culture, be it in theater, music, movies or other creative media. Her name being famous internationally helped people take more pride in their provenance and aim to know and more to achieve even a fraction of her greatness or the effect she had on art all over the world, while still maintaining the knowledge and pride of their upcoming in their romanian roots.

Personally, learning about her actions and work was a wonderful trip through time and culture. Witnessing the effort and beauty of a monumental actress and singer, I was personally inspired to perceive the concepts of incorporating a beneficiary goal into my own building career.

Spiridon Vangheli- A Local Hero

Spiridon Vangheli was a beloved Moldovan writer, poet, and translator, best known for his contributions to children's literature. Born on June 14, 1932, in Grinăuți, Romania, he pursued his passion for education and literature, graduating from Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University in 1955. After working as a teacher, he joined the Moldovan Writers' Union and dedicated his life to writing stories that would inspire generations.

His most famous creation, Guguță, is a mischievous yet kind-hearted boy who wears an oversized traditional hat. In one of his most symbolic stories, Guguță invites his entire village under his hat, which magically grows larger to shelter everyone. This simple yet powerful metaphor represents unity, generosity, and kindness—values that Vangheli promoted throughout his works. His books, translated into over 40 languages, brought joy and wisdom to children worldwide.

Spiridon Vangheli is considered a hero because he preserved and enriched Moldova’s literary heritage, teaching children about compassion, justice, and the power of imagination. Through his stories, he shaped not only young minds but also the cultural identity of the nation.

For me, Vangheli's work is a reminder of the importance of kindness and unity. His stories inspire me to believe in the power of literature to shape a better world, just as he did for so many children through Guguță’s adventures.

Grigore Vieru is not just a poet—he is the very essence of my country. His words have shaped generations, accompanying us from childhood through his enchanting children's poetry, deepening our emotions with his verses on love and women, and ultimately guiding us in our reflections on life, family, and mortality

Born on February 14, 1935, in a family of farmers, he spent his early years in the countryside. His literary talent became evident early on, and in 1957, as a university student, he published his first collection of children's poetry, receiving critical acclaim. After earning his degree in Philology and History, he worked as an editor for a children's newspaper. However, 1968 marked a pivotal moment in his career when he published a volume of lyrical poetry, hailed as the most original book of the year. Throughout his life, Grigore Vieru composed thousands of poems, many of which were set to music, celebrating themes of love, motherhood, patriotism, and national identity.

His literary achievements were widely recognized. In 1988, he received the prestigious Andersen Honorary Award for children's literature. His contribution to Romanian culture earned him an honorary membership in the Romanian Academy, and in 1992, he was even considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Though he is no longer physically present, Grigore Vieru’s spirit lives on through his poetry. In his honor, several schools, a boulevard in Chișinău, and a street in Iași bear his name, and in 2010, a bust of him was placed on the Alley of Classics in Chișinău.

Through poetry, he chronicled our nation's struggles, celebrated its heritage, and defended the Romanian language and the Latin alphabet. He masterfully united the most powerful words—Language, Mother, Love, and Motherland—into verses that continue to shape Moldova’s identity.

Grigore Vieru is important to me because his poetry captures the essence of my heritage, evoking a deep sense of identity, love, and belonging. Through his words, I feel connected to my roots, my language, and the unbreakable bond between family, history, and homeland.

Nicolae Dabija is a true national hero, remembered for his important role in the fight to preserve our beloved Romanian language and awaken the national spirit. Born in 1948, Dabija was not just a poet and writer, but a passionate defender of the Romanian language during difficult times. In the years when Romania was under a harsh communist regime, Dabija used his writing to resist the government's attempts to silence the Romanian people and their culture. The regime tried to control many aspects of life, but Dabija believed that the Romanian language was key to keeping the nation’s identity alive. His poems and essays were filled with love for his country and its language, reminding people of how important it was to stand strong in the face of oppression. Even though many writers and intellectuals were forced into silence or exile, Dabija refused to stay quiet. He kept writing and speaking out, urging Romanians to hold on to their language and culture. He also played an active role in legalizing Romanian as our official language, fighting for freedom, independence and national pride. His courage inspired many others, and his efforts helped lead to the fall of the communist regime and the rise of a stronger national identity. Nicolae Dabija’s legacy goes beyond his literary works. He became a symbol of strength and true patriotism for Moldova and Romania, showing that language is not just a way to communicate, but a powerful force for preserving a nation’s culture and unity. His work continues to inspire Romanians today, reminding them of the importance of their language and their history. After reading his books and researching his political activity, the love for my country, language and culture became even stronger. Nicolae Dabija is my hero because he inspired me to have the courage to fight for our national idenity and because he is a strong reminder for today’s youth that one single human can have a huge impact through effort, love, passion and true dedication. I will forever be grateful for his brave actions that saved my country and language and I will keep honoring his activity by protecting and promoting our national values, literature and history.

Music is one thing that, no matter the language or background, can create and convey emotions and get the message across. One of our local heroes, who has managed to fulfill this impressive task is Eugen Doga, a Moldovan composer well-known all around the world for his masterful creations, such as waltzes, film scores, ballets and orchestral pieces.

He was born on the 1st of March in 1937 in a poor family, his childhood being affected by events such as repressions, hunger, the war and hard work. Later, he went on to study at the School of Music in Chisinau, where, despite previous experience, but rather due to his incredible talent, he was accepted and learned musical notation and how to play the cello, later mastering the piano and specializing in composition.

After his compositional debut in 1963, he started creating music for cinema and other works of art, rising to fame and managing to promote his creations in the biggest theaters and concert halls of the world. Eugen Doga’s most famous work is the waltz from the film My Sweet and Tender Beast (1978). This waltz has been recognized as one of the greatest musical compositions of the 20th century and was even played at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. UNESCO named it one of the four greatest waltzes of all time, alongside pieces by composers like Johann Strauss. Also, he has composed music for over 200 films and TV productions, making him one of the most important film composers of his time. His work includes iconic Soviet films such as Lautarii (1972), Maria, Mirabela (1981), and Anna Pavlova (1983). Through his compositions, Doga has preserved and promoted Moldovan culture. He frequently incorporates elements of Moldovan folk music into his work, ensuring that the country’s unique musical traditions reach a global audience. He has received plenty of famous awards, such as the Order of the Republic of Moldova, which is the highest award given by the Moldovan government. What I believe to be the greatest fact about this composer’s life is that Doga’s waltz was played on the International Space Station. His music has quite literally transcended Earth, making him one of the greatest composers of all time.

As a piano player myself and as someone who has tried to compose music, I am inspired by musicians who have managed to bring fame to our country. It is incredibly hard to capture a film’s essence by combining notes together, but Eugen Doga manages to do that masterfully. He is and will be a huge inspiration for generations and one who has helped a lot of artists’ prove their worth.

Demonstrating a special interest in electricity from a young age, Boris Lazarenko paved the way for a method considered a breakthrough in 20th century engineering. What first seemed to be a failed task given by his superiors, turned out to be the leading experiment that helped this Soviet scientist of Moldovan descent come up with a revolutionary technology.

Boris Lazarenko is regarded as a pioneer in modern electrical engineering. Why? He developed a method called electric spark erosion, which is now widely used globally under the name “Electrical Discharge Machining” or EDM in short. This method is original because it allows for manufacturing work pieces and components of practically any geometry. When it comes to the surface shape and the materials being processed, the physical characteristics of this technique provide exceptional technological versatility.

Confident in the extraordinary qualities of electricity, Academician Lazarenko founded the journal "Prelucrarea electrică a materialelor" in 1965 and served as its first Editor-in-Chief. Additionally, under his most recent scientific endeavours, Academician Lazarenko focused on the behaviour of living things under magnetic and electric fields.

Boris Lazarenko laid the foundations of valuable scientific research projects during his life. He developed the EDM method and spent his career focusing on the unique aspects of electricity. He is an inspiring Moldovan scientist, whose contributions to the scientific world have an echo even today.

Tania Cergă stands as a prominent Moldovan singer-songwriter, renowned for her evocative lyrics that delve into themes of love, empathy, and personal fulfillment. Her song “Nu mi-e rușine” (I’m not ashamed) confronts societal expectations and champions self-acceptance. In this track, she candidly expresses, “Nu mi-e rușine că uneori nu mă simt bine, și nu vreau să râd la glumele tale” (I’m not ashamed that sometimes I don’t feel well, and I don’t want to laugh at your jokes), highlighting the importance of embracing one’s true emotions.

Another notable piece, “În bătaia inimii,” showcases Tania’s poetic prowess. She sings, “Merg de trei zile prin soare, ard toată, dar nu mă doare” (I’ve been walking for three days under the sun, burning entirely, but it doesn’t hurt), symbolizing endurance and unwavering spirit.

In 2023, I had the privilege of collaborating with Tania at my first concert. Beyond her musical talents, she generously shared invaluable advice on voice maintenance, emphasizing the significance of staying hydrated, practicing regular vocal exercises, and ensuring adequate rest. Her guidance profoundly impacted my approach to singing, underscoring the importance of self-care in artistic endeavors.

Tania Cergă is celebrated not only for her musical contributions but also for her authenticity and courage to challenge societal norms. Her work encourages individuals to embrace their true selves and prioritize genuine connections over superficial appearances. From her journey, we learn the power of vulnerability and the strength found in authenticity.

Personally, Tania’s artistry resonates deeply with me, and she has, as she sings, “a house in my soul”. Her music serves as a reminder to honor my emotions and remain true to myself, inspiring a more sincere and fulfilling path in both life and art.

Born in 1888 in Chişinău, he grew up in a time of cultural transformation. Unveiled in 1928, the monument honors the legendary 15th-century ruler who defended Moldavia against foreign invaders. Beyond this iconic work, Plămădeală dedicated his life to promoting national culture through art, working as the director of the Fine Arts School of Chişinău and mentoring young artists.

Marianna Vardinogianni was born in 1937 in Athens, where she grew up. She is known for being a Greek activist for the rights of children. Marianna began her activities as a member of various philanthropic organizations, through which she fought for international peace, even though her main focus was the problems of children: health, education, poverty, child abuse, and exploitation. She was the founder of the organization "For the Kids and the Family", which was later named after her, and of the association "Elpida" (Hope), which focuses on children with cancer.

Since 1999, she worked with UNESCO on subjects related to the rights and protection of children, as well as cultural heritage. At the same time, she supported vulnerable social groups, refugees, and schools in Greece, as well as areas and people affected by natural disasters. She received many honorary titles and awards due to her kind actions throughout her life, including the Academy of Athens Prize, the Grand Prize of the Charter of Paris against Cancer, and more.

She passed away on 24 July 2023, at the age of 86, in Athens. Through her actions, she proved to the world that if we have faith in ourselves, we can change the world for the better and that everything is possible as long as we don't give up.

Personally, I believe that Marianna Vardinogianni was an incredible woman who did everything she could to make the world a better place for younger generations, overcoming difficulties and reaching great heights. She is an inspiration to so many people, motivating us and giving us hope that there is still good in this world. She encourages us to take action, make an impact, and leave a mark through our efforts for a better tomorrow.

A person I admire very much is Pericles. He was a truly important figure because he accomplished many things and was far ahead of his time. One of his greatest achievements was that he managed to take advantage of the Greeks' victory against the Persians in the war. He also utilized Athens' naval power to transform the Delian League into an "Athenian Empire," leading Athens to its greatest peak in history during the 14 years he served as a general.

Pericles remained the leader of Athens until his death in 429 B.C., after the first two years of the Peloponnesian War. Another remarkable achievement was his strong support for democracy and freedom of speech. As a result, during his time, the foundations of Western civilization were established. He was also a great supporter of the arts, literature, and sciences, playing a key role in making Athens the cultural and intellectual center of the ancient world.

As a leader, he introduced various laws that supported the lower classes, helping them gain more rights against the aristocracy, to which he himself belonged. He was the first to establish democracy in the country.

I consider Pericles a hero because he inspired the ancient Greeks and future generations to develop their society and achieve prosperity. He also worked to bring justice and equal rights to all social classes. His dedication to justice and the improvement of his country is what makes him a hero in my eyes.

In his young years, Taras worked here for Mr. Engelhardt, and later, already a free man, he repeatedly visited these places during his travels in Ukraine.

Korsun and its landscapes inspired Shevchenko. He admired the beauty of nature, local legends and the historical past of our city, in particular memories of popular uprisings and Cossack struggles. In his works, he mentioned our town Korsun as a symbol of Cossack glory.

Today, there is a museum dedicated to Taras Shevchenko in Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi, and his name is honored in monuments and street names.
Local heroes from Titu

In the town of Titu, Dâmbovița County, the memory of local heroes is respectfully preserved, although specific information about them is limited. However, in the neighboring town of Niculești, a monument dedicated to the 102 local heroes who fell in the First and Second World Wars was unveiled, an event attended by local and county officials. As for Titu, the first documentary attestation dates back to 1635, mentioning “Stoica logofăt din Titu” as the owner of the Voinești estate. Also, the village of Fusea, a component of the town of Titu, took its name from Cristache Fusea (1820–1890), former deputy in the Ad-hoc Divan in 1859 and cousin of the poet Grigore Alexandrescu. This information reflects the importance given by local communities to the memory of heroes and personalities who contributed to the development of the Titu area and its surroundings.

Zeynep Çakır revived the flower-growing tradition, dating back to the Ottoman era, by cultivating beautiful flowers in her home garden. She passed away in 2013. She guided Bayındır in becoming the capital of flowers and played a crucial role in the development of flower producers to this day.

My hero is my father because he helps me to learn useful things like music and more specifically bouzouki and piano, as well as foreign languages. When I was young we had sheep, goats and chickens and he taught me things about them that if I lived in the city there would be no way for me to know. In the summer afternoons we played basketball, badminton, volleyball and more, and he also taught me how to drive a car. I believe my father gave me some valuable insights that I enjoyed and helped me in my life, which is why he is a hero in my eyes.

Eleftherios Venizelos

Eleftherios Venizelos was born in 1864 in Mournies of Chania, Crete. He studied law at the University of Athens and returned to Chania, where he began practicing law and deals with local politics.

He started his politician career with Leberal faction and in 1898 when the Great Powers declared the autonomy of Crete with Prince George of Greece as High Commissioner, Venizelos was apponted Conselor (Minister) of Justice of the Cretan State. Later he argued with Prince George and he gave up his position. After that he declared th revolution of Therisso in 1905 for two reasons. First, to make Prince George give up his position and second to unite Crete with the rest Greece.

The political change in Greece brought him to Athens, where he was accepted in the parliamentary elections. He immediately made revolutionary reforms and changed the Constitution in 1911. Later, in 1916 he became Prime Minister of Greece and in 1920 he signed the Treaty of Sevres in Paris, which created the greater Greece "of the two continents and the five seas".

In 1928 he won the elections again and governed until 19132. He accomplished important work in many areas (foundation of the Agricultural Bank, the Council of State and the National Teater, construction of 3000 schools). In 1935 Venizelos was forced to leave Greece and never return. He died in Paris in 1936 from a stroke and was buried in Chania.

Eleftherios Venizelos was the greatest politician of Greece and he manged to do great things for the whole country. By his actions he taught us that we can all achieve our dreams and that we just have to keep our hopes up without giving up when difficult times come. I wonder if he was still alive, how many more great things he would have done and how Greece would be like, if he was still with us.
